A Corgi Baby Sister?

We have THE best dog in the world! Yes, I know all boxer owners feel this way. But, he really is the best. He is 2 1/2 and we are thinking of getting a second dog to add to our joy. I did a search on Corgis on this site and didn't have any luck. Have any of your boxers played with corgis or better yet, are there any Boxer/Corgi owners out there? We are considering a Pembroke Welsh Corgi because of its small size (already have one big dog), it is supposed to be great with kids, its friendly disposition and it is good with other dogs. I'd love to hear from you!

Reis' new BIG brother

over the holidays, Reis got a new playmate. A Turkish man in a nearby city gave us his Great Dane. In Turkey, unemployment is high and pets are not really a common site. IF they are, then they are not taken care of according to our standards, thats for sure! Yankee is 18months old. He should weigh about 160 pounds easy. When we got him, he only weighed 90. He has been through 3 homes already. Not because he is trouble, he is well behaved. He is potty trained (thank God) and he is calm. yankee and Reis get along great!
Yankee loves being in a kennel. The first day we had him, he tried to get in our boxers kennel!!! So we spent an arn and a leg and got him his own.
Inever imagined having one of these dogs, but he is great!

My family had Pembroke Corgi's while I was growing up. Wonderful (yet very feisty) dogs. They are a herding breed however, and everytime we would play in the yard, he'd be running around nipping at our heels I didn't actually have a Boxer until I reached my 20's - but I think they will get along fabulousley! All the Boxers I've ever encountered LOVE to play with little dogs, and believe me, a Corgi can definitely hold his own Good luck!

My experience with corgis has not been good. We had very good friends that had one when we were growing up. We knew the breeders, the owners, and the dog extremely well. My brother was bitten very badly by the dog (unprovoked).

We have a lot of them at the horse shows, and they are always attacking the larger dogs and getting into trouble.

Yes! We had a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and a Boxer at the same time. Our Corgi was 4 when we added our Boxer to the family. They got along pretty well, with our Corgi being more affectionate to our Boxer than vice versa. They were a pretty good team. A Corgi is a solid little dog and can take some rough and tumble play with a Boxer. I agree with Ronin 1 that Corgis can be a little nippy with children when playing and they can also be barkers. On the other hand, Corgis have TONS of quirks and personality; they are very charming and kindly little dogs. We lost our Corgi on July 26th at the age of 13 and our Boxer (9 yrs.) followed him a few months later on January 4th. They were so-so friends, but at the end they just couldn't live without each other.

Sadly, we lost our corgi to cancer the same week I brought Bailey home. He was the best family dog we ever had though. A little brat at times, but he was a lover too. I miss him and some day we will get another.
