July 7th Birthday Beach Boxer Bash for MD DC and VA Areas...

I reviewed all post from our first Boxer Bash Roll call and emailed those whom we haven't heard from in a while to let them know about the BirthdayBeach Bash. Blade and I are going to Quiet Waters today for a look and we will give you guys some feedback on what to expect........ I might even take my Digital camera.........

What time are you going? Maybe we can meet you there. I'll clue you in on one thing to expect....expect to get wet from dogs shaking themselves! Also, if you take a water toy....expect the other dogs to get it. Also, the dog section is alllllll the way in the back of the park. It's a huge park. Just follow the black & white paw print signs. When you get allll the way to the back of the park you will see the dog park on the left, parking in center, and trail to the beach to the right (near bathrooms). Once you take the trail, you will go down some steps (the water will be in front of you) turn left at the bottom of the steps. (dont turn right like we did the first time).

I have to go grocery shopping at some point today but would be glad to meet you there. Let me know what time.

PeggyG I left real early and didn't see your post until I returned. :(

Quiet Waters is a beautiful Park! Blade and I got the aound 9:30 AM. The directions were easy to follow. After entering the park the man at the gate said we didn't have to pay the $4.00 because we were early and he hadn't set up yet. Great start so far! We located the fenced in large dog park and decided to stop in to play with several other dogs. Blade has not been to a dog park since Boxer Bash #1. He seemed to remember how to play well with others. So after staying for about 20 minutes we decided to head to the dog beach as it was already begining to heat up a bit.

We made it to the dog beach and Blade took right to the water after I threw a large ball in the water for him to fetch. (IT WAS HIS FIRST WATER EXPERIENCE!) There were two other dogs at the beach and they all played well together sharing their toys... Blade was too funny! He was fine in going into the water until it began to get a little deep. Then he would turn and come back in to shore without his ball unless I walked out to the ball with him.. He had to keep his paws on me so I ended up getting quite wet too!!

Quiet Waters is a wonderful Park. We should have a beautiful day, especially since we can choose to go to the fenced in area and a beach too!

At the end, a large older lab arrived and was aggressive with Blade. Before we knew it Blade was bitten on the back. Even so we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to go back again.

Note: I took Blade to his vet and he got his cut cleaned and an antibiotic.... He is fine....appicon appicon wormicon

Zsara~ Poor Blade! Such a sweet boy doesnt deserve that at all! While walking one day, on lead, a weimerrunner got off his lead, ran up to Hook and bit him on the back! My dad was walking him at the time and Hook is his special boy and my dad (Mr mellow man!) almost picked a fight with the other owner! Hook didnt do anything and he was on lead!!!

It looks like Blade had a blast...I cannot wait!!! My two LOVE to swim...especially Dayla!

You know...I was dissappointed with the Lab owner...

She was a young woman. When I realized Blade had 2 punture wounds, I told her. She didn't show any real concern. She didn't even come over to see how bad he was injured. I kept my cool and just packed up and called my vet. I should have asked her about her dogs' shots and gotten her infor to make her pay for his vet bill which was $60. But I didn't. We had too much fun to let 1 numNut ruin our day.:mad: :( :mad:

It sounds like you had a nice time until the end. :mad: I'm sorry that happened. We have been a gazillion times and havent had a problem with other dogs but its always a possibility at a dog park. Poor Blade. Im glad its ok.

Scarlet took right to the water the first time too. She would play in it for hours if we let her. She seems to know instinctively how far she can go out. I like how they can go pretty far out and still be standing. A few times she followed better swimmers and went out a little too far for my comfort but then, just before I would start thinking to myself: looks like Im going in, she would turn around and head back for shore.

When we first started going she would come out of the water and go into the shrubbery to go pee. I thought, what a well mannered dog I have. But now she squats and pees in the water. I giggle to myself privately.

Anyway, I feel bummed that I wont be there for the bash! I know everyone will have a good time. And like you said, if people are too nervous about the beach there is always the fenced park.

Dont forget to take towels everyone. (For wiping down you pooch before they get into the car). I cant wait to hear all about it. Zsara, The picture came out great. He looks like he's been doing the water thing forever.

Ya know!!!!!!!!!! That makes me mad!!!!!!!!! YOU SHOULD HAVE MADE HER PAY THE BILL FOR THAT REASON ALONE.

Birthday Beach Boxer Bash MD DC VA JULY 7th 2002 Quiet Waters Park

I will get there early about 9:30 Am or so. I want to be able to get settled before it gets too hot. I will then allow Blade time in both areas...and get to meet and greet everyone who plans to participate.

I would imagine, (correct me if I am wrong PeggyG) the two areas can be crowded on the weekends. So I am planning to start early and leave alittle after noon. That way we can beat the heat and get cleaned up!

Now that's my plan so far. It may change if my husband or walking buddy decide to join in the fun. Last time they wouldn't even come into the fenced in dogpark :(

Quiet waters is so nice though even if they don't want to mingle with the boxers they can find other areas in the park to chill out.....
