I don't know if this is the right forum...I'm sorry if it's not...I couldn't figure where to place it!smashicon! My neighbor is my coworker/friends sister...the problem is she has a puppy about 6months old...and I don't think she should have it....it's a pit/lab mix...I think. They only take the dog out to use the bathroom...never for WALKS...like me & the boys.My real problem is that sometimes they tie the poor dog to the back door outside...with his 6ft leash! There is no shade in this area....not to mention the poor thing can't move around...and they don't put water out for him!Yesterday....they left him tied outside for about 6 hours! And not only that...when I got a good look at him...I could see his ribs and his pelvis bones!I know she's never taken him to the vet...she can't afford it.I spoke to my friend about the dog today...and asked her if her sister had mentioned him being sick or anything....because if so...I was going to offer suggestions.I don't know if shes not feeding him...or if he's sick....but it's weighing heavy on my heart. My friend will see him tomorrow...so she can give me her opinion on him...she thinks when it comes to dogs that I get very high-strung!But she did say...her sister should have never gotten a dog!I have some Nutro Natural Choice kibble that Herkie doesn't do well on...and some canned food...I am going to offer that to her tomorrow....but I don't know what to do about her tying the dog outside....Oh...and they do this inside to...tie him to a closet door! The next time I see him tied outside...I am going to call our landlord...and probably the police(anonomously).I just can't stand to see the poor thing treated this way...I hope my friend can convince her to give the dog away.

Thanks for listening....and any suggestions you have...I would appreciate!

Just wanted to say I think you are on the right track. I too would call Animal Control if he was that thin. And being tied up all day with no water or shade! It makes you wonder why someone even gets a pup in the first place. Good Luck and keep us posted.

I agree! Contacting Animal Control may be the best thing you can do for that pup. Perhaps the people just need some lessons on how to properly treat an animal. That puppy is lucky to have you as a neighbor. Most people would just look the other way thinking that it was none of their business.

I always get so sad when I see dogs tied in yards, there is something entirely unnatural about that and I can only imagine what it must do to a dog's psyche. We don't have a fenced in yard, but before we got our first Boxer we spent 5 hours putting in a temporary fence so the dog would have a safe place to run and play. I could not imagine just putting our puppies outside on a 6-foot leash and expecting them to be happy and well behaved. Poor baby! Keep us posted!

i agree

you should call animal control.. I did last year when our rear neighbours would stake their black lab cross in the middle of the yard without shade & where it would get tangled up (it would look at our house & bark so I would have to leave all my kids skin & fur & jump the fence & go & untie her & she would be soooo greatful)... Animal control after about 5 days of me ringing finally left someone there to see them when they got home, they gave the dog away then...:) were not to happy with me though b/c I told animal control they could tell them it was me & why I was complaining.

Cheers & I think you are doing the right thing.

Jessica, your heart is in the right place! If this poor animal is being kept tied up in the sun with no shade and no water, that's a clear case of animal abuse! I agree that people who treat their pets like this have no love or attachment to the animal. Why they own one I will never know! You should continue to keep an eye on them and report them if you see this again. If they cannot afford a pet, they should do the animal a favor and give him to someone who will love him. Good luck and (((HUGS))) to you! :)

I think you are doing the right thing. The poor dog may be lucky and get a proper home where he is well cared for. This may only be the beginning of a horrible life for the dog if you just left it.

Just a dog...I really am starting to hate these words. I hear it all the time from co-workers, friends and family. Educated or not some people are raised with this mentality and unfortunately there is very little that can be done about it. Inside the body of that dog is a soul just like all of us. There is absolutely no reason for someone who is not going to care for a dog properly to keep one...I am not talking spoiled rotten, the most expensive food & toys, etc. Just the basics! A dog is one of Gods creatures just like the rest of us...and it is a creature that depends on us (the smart race, go figure) for its care, health and welfare. IT IS A LIFE!

Quite honestly if it were me, I would call animal control... I would rather have an angry neighbor than see that dog die from neglect and know I could have stopped it. Do it anonomously, just please help that poor dog out.

Everything happens for a purpose. Rachel, your story may be read by everyone of the BW members and all the unregistered people who are silently reading and lurking on the site. Your story could sway the mind of Jessica to call and perhaps someone else who has a similiar situation going on near them. I know it will stay in m y mind forever...maybe that 1 rotties life could save 10, or 20 or 100. Don't feel bad, you are only human just like the rest of us. Hugs to you for your story.

This is exactly the way I feel, I could not have written it any different. As far as Rachel P. post, I have been in many situations where you knew that if you reported a animal being neglected and abused that you were probably going to face consequences. What I do in a situation like that is I go to a pay phone and make the call so it can't be traced back to me and I DO NOT leave a name. The animal control officiers here say it is confidential but I can never be too sure about that, because sometimes what they let go by them and think that the animals are fine, is just horrendous. I would definately report anything I see that even resembles abuse and neglect at least it will be checked out and after so many complaints I believe most agencies do remove the animal. I wish I could tell you how many times I have been told by people and the humane society that I am over sensitive to animals and that they don't have to have everything just so like I think they should have. The law states they only need food, water, shelter. Okay what about LOVE how can any living thing survive without LOVE. JMO

Just giving a little update....I sent a letter to my landlord(who's great BTW) and told him the situation of the dog being tied outside for long periods of time, etc.Well he contacted her and told her this was unacceptable...and we are not allowed "outside" dogs here.Come to find out...the kids have been tieing the poor thing out when the mother isn't home, and she's unaware of this(so she says)!wormicon...I've also been speaking with her sister on a regular basis about the dog....and in turn she's been telling her sister that they really don't need a dog...can't care for it properly...yadayadayada....And she's told me that the puppy is going to be found a new home.I don't know the situation there....but at least I won't have to watch it suffer anymore...hopefully it will be a much better place! Thanks for all ya'lls responses and support!
