I think you should definately start the thread to track this too. We would all like to watch the progress and be able to see the total at the end of the year.

I think that's a good idea. we could ask the moderators if they can make it a sticky thread so it'll always be at the top. then maybe others who missed this thread or new members who join during the year can join in the effort!

This is what I sent my family and friends:
Every year we all make New Year's Resolutions that we never keep. Maybe it's to lose weight, maybe its to start working out (they usually have to do with being healthier). This year I propose a New Year's Resolution to help those in need.
Many dogs are in shelters or in rescue organizations that lack the funds to spay and neuter the animals. If we all get together and pledge to sponsor to spay or neuter an animal in the year 2005 imagine the difference it would make!
Each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. - and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all the animals. As a result, every year 4 to 6 million animals are euthanized because there are no homes for them.
In addition to saving lives, spaying and neutering can also drastically improve a pet's health and life expectancy. The idea that pets become fat or lazy when they are spayed or neutered is a myth. Sterilized pets lead healthier, longer lives. Spaying a female eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer. Neutering a male reduces the risk of both prostate enlargement and prostate cancer. Neutering also will make your pet more affectionate and less likely to roam, get in fights, or become lost.
Rescue organizations rely on donations and volunteers in order to continue to take in animals that would otherwise end up in shelters and euthanized if not adopted. If we all pledge to contact a rescue organization and offer to sponsor a pet to be spayed or neutered, you are not only helping to control an already overwhelming pet population, but also helping out these organizations that have already realized the problem and are working hard to do something about it.

You guys are great!! I went online and got some statistics, because I still can't find my facts sheet from our kennel club. But according to a pet over-population website it said that: One female dog and one male dog will have 4,372 offspring in 7 years. That means that if the 12 of us keep our New Year's Resolutions (then in a worse case scenario) We will have prevented 52,464 unwanted offspring from being born!!!! And that's not counting the additional offspring of the puppies having puppies and their puppies having puppies and so on. That's one set of dogs. WOW --I think that that has to be making a difference!! I'll never be a rocket scientist, How does that poem go?,
but I saved a dog today. I'll be toasting to all of us keeping our New Year's Resolutions tonight! And I would love to hear in the future how many people joined in and how they went about doing it. And who benefitted from it. A friend and neighbor of mine is joining in and already has her plan in action. There is another neighbor of ours, an uneducated Boxer owner, who lets her un-neutered male Boxer run the neighborhood. My friend called her and told her that she had a free spay or neuter coupon given out from our kennel club and that my friends pets are already spayed and she can't use it. Would she like to use it, but only my friend could take the dog in? The un-educated Boxer owner said, " Sure why not" and the dog will be scheduled after the holidays. My friend will get it done! And no one will feel weird about it, 'Cause she thinks it's a free coupon'. My friend is really paying for it. This should make a difference in the Boxer mix pups born around here come this spring. And Shannonmac, you may get many people to join in! Think what 20 people could do! WOW

nmsis, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate you getting Riddick nuetered for us. We would like to sponsor a spay/neuter for a boxer here in town. Now that Christmas is over we should have some $$ to spare. HAHA

Misty, Girl, You already earned your angel wings for years to come!!!!
Our getting Riddick neutered was nothing! You guys took a white (deaf-we thought) Boxer out of the pound and off death row. He had NO time left!!
And we couldn't have helped him if you wouldn't have taken him, because we can't board any dogs here with my three. So if you wouldn't have agreed to take him, Sadly, he wouldn't have been helped, at all. You are willing to deal with any of his pound dog issues that he will have come up in the future and you let him walk right into your house and snuggle up on your couch. I tell you my eyes just about popped out of my head, when I saw that. Truely from the pound to the couch. You have done a wonderful thing, and hopefully Riddick will live for 10 more years. You are exempt from this thread. You and your husband are such nice people!!

I'm in!!!!
I have met some people from Midwest boxer rescue and realy like them. I am going to contact them soon and sponser a neuter!!! Money is tight now b/c of the holidays, but it will even out soon.
What a great idea!!!!
