Because of the situation going on in my own home town right now, with Boxers continuously going into the pound here. It had me thinking about what else I can do to help this breed that I love. My husband and I try to help one Boxer a year get out of the pound-- it has turned into two in the last two months-- and there is another one in the pound that needs help now. We really need to be leaving the rescuing to the experts, but we just want to help. Rescues are soo full right now! Iv'e come up with a (New) New Year's Resolution for our family and I thought some people on here might want to join in, and do this also. This thread isn't for the tireless Boxer rescuers that rescue dogs day in and day out, there are no words to express what a contribution to this world and to the Boxer breed that you all are making! This thread is for the hard working responsible Boxer owners, who spay and neuter their pets and are heartbroken when they see Boxers in a high kill shelter. The people who want to help, but don't have any more room on the couch for another Boxer, or they don't know what they can do, or if it will make much of a difference. My family's New New Year's Resolution is this---and think what a
massive effect this would have if all the people that get on BoxerWorld every day would also do this. What if everyone made a resolution for 2005 to spay or neuter one Boxer. You could get a hold of a Bona-fide Boxer Rescue or the Humane Society in your own area and sponsor one Boxer to be spayed or neutered. You would have all of 2005 to do it----and maybe we could even start a thread to keep track of the people that take on this challenging New Year's Resolution and see how many people keep it. It's a better New Year's Resolution than loosing 10 pounds, cause actually those sugar cookies taste really good, and I don't want to get back on a stair master ever. I used to have a paper that told the facts about how much damage an unneutered and unspayed pair of dogs could do in a year's time to the dog over-population problem. I'm sure the moderaters know the facts on this and hopefully one of them will fill in the facts here. But a female Boxer having two litters a year of at least 7 puppies for the rest of her life probably comes to ------WOW. And then those puppies have puppies and those puppies have pups and on it goes. Not to mention that it will help with the financial burden on the rescues and it will make the Boxers more adoptable, even if they are just out at the pound. I recently asked some people who found a Boxer if they would help with the spaying or neutering fees and they quit listening to me. But they really wanted to help the dog (yeah right). I know people are strapped for cash right now, we are too. But with the whole year of 2005 and a bunch of people making this their (New) New Year Resolution---think what a difference could be made!
