We rescued a 9mo female about 3 weeks ago...took her to the Vet and she was given thumbs up on health although she is a little under weight...This past Sunday eve she started developing hives all over her body....the only thing new that she was introduced to was frontline plus Sat afternoon...almost 24 hrs later she got the hives///Took her to the Vet Mon morning and she was given low dose of antihistimine and 4 hrs later she was free of the hives...that eve she developed the hives again and still has them...Vet said to continue the antihistimine until all 10 tabs had been taken....Guess my question is has anyone experienced an alergic reaction to frontline plus? thanks

Johann did as a puppy. Unfortunately he was allergic to the carrier agent that is in frontline- which is the same in most of the topical flea/tick medications. We live in tick filled area with lots of lyme disease, so he needed to get Frontline plus. He got hives (and eventually a secondary skin infection from itching) 2 months in a row.

Our vet had us premedicate with diphenhydramine (benedryl in the US) 3 times the day before applying, 3 times the day we applied it, and 3 times the day after we applied it. This seemed to work very well for him. We eventually stopped doing this (around a year later) and now he's fine.

Congrats on your new addition and thanks for rescuing a boxer. :)
