I don't profess to know the solution, nor do I think BYB are going to be driven out of business anytime soon - BUT I will no longer support them, and thus will know I'm doing my part. It's amazing how efforts put forth "one person at a time" CAN make a difference.

We paid $1500 Canadian for our girl just weeks ago. After coming to this site prior to getting Georgia, it was a price I was willing to pay for a fabulous breeder with high standards. Where we are from this is not an unusual price for a pure bred breed.

We paid £450.00 for Gus twelve & half years ago. He was worth every penny and more. Don't know how much that is in dollar's.

These days pups are going from £450.00 upwards in Scotland

The rate is almost double nowadays, so now it would be close to $900.00 US. Back then the rate was different, so it would probably have cost less for him in the US. I was just in the UK back in June, and the rate was AWFUL for us. Good business for you guys though. BTW - Scotland is my favorite place in the UK. I wish I could have stayed and stayed and stayed. Sooooo beautiful! And so full of history!

We paid $800 for Chelsea and $450 for Angel. Our breeder originally wanted $650.00 for Angel but gave us a discount since we took both at the same time. After researching this breeder we felt confident paying this amount even though we had no intentions of showing or breeding Chelsea.

What beautiful babies, but, after all I've read about "reputable" breeders, seems to me that Angel should have been "free to a good home" since she's white and strictly "pet material".

Why do you think that Angel, the white Boxer should have been free? Do you think the Vet gave shots & docked the tails for free, did the pup not cost the breeder anything, because its a white Boxer & only pet material,as you called her.It cost just as much for the care of a white Boxer,as it would any other color. Thank you for the compliment, however I have to disagree about "reputable" breeders give whites for free. In my experience "reputable" breeders charge for all their pups because the health testing is still done as well as shots and docking. I've found though that the whites are usually not as expensive as the others. Her most expensive was $1200 and least expensive was Angel at $650.00.

She came with the same health guarantee as her sister who is considered "show" material not just "pet" material. However, as far as we're concerned they're both "family" material. Either way I would have paid full price for her because we weren't buying with showing or breeding in mind. We just wanted healthy puppies.

ooops

OK, well maybe not "free", but at a very substantially discounted rate, like strictly the costs involved directly with that specific puppy...which I find hard to believe added up to $650...unless it's a very expensive vet...but prices are different all over. In my neck of the woods a regular vet check runs $25-$50, immunizations $10-$20, and a spay or neuter (depends on the size) for an average boxer would be $100-$150. That's probably pretty cheap compared to most areas.
At any rate, they are both positively precious :)

FYI to all involved in this thread...After doing all my reading (just read all the horror stories in the BYB sticky) and research and arguing and justifying, (by the way, I have never personnally supported a BYB-I know both my girls were products of them, but we adopted both of them from other sources), I would not consider purchasing a BYB puppy....we are still trying to rescue or adopt from a shelter, but also have a line on puppies from a supposed reputable breeder-will definitely research them before jumping in to anything. ;)

I have learned SO MUCH from this site. Thanks to everyone :)
