We paid $1000 for Tyson and yes I too think it's alot, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. I always get people asking me if he's fixed cause they think he's so handsome and his markings are great. Our vet even asked us why we got him fixed cause there would be alot of people out there willing to pay to breed him. I explained to her that we can't afford the testing that goes with it. Kinda awful that you have to explain these things to your own vet don't you think?!

I paid $750 for Colby. His bloodlines are very strong, but the breeder cut us a break. He was originally bred in Alabama and whelped there, that's where his mommy and daddy are. The breeder I bought him from breeds his stud with the breeder in Alabama, and she asked him to bring a few puppies up to NJ when they were ready to be sold b/c in Alabama, people wouldn't pay more than $400 or so for them. I thought that was strange, but whatever. When we got Cadence, she was $900, so I figured he was right in range with everything else I had seen. I had spoken with some other local breeders and they were charging about the same, depending on the litter. It really is a shame that these BYB get away with this stuff. Don't they understand they're only hurting these poor little babies? It makes me so angry...think I'll go love on my doggies for a while now!

Yup us to. We paid 800.00 for Vegas. It was and extra 2 or 3 if we wanted him cropped as well.

When I was reasearching breeders some came in up to 1500.00. This is all Canadian funds as well.

What my Dh and and I can't undersatnd is that people will pay twice as much at a pet store when they could save hundreds by going to reputable breeder and get a healthy dog.

We only paid 450.00 for Sam, but he came from a BYB. Never again! We have had no problems thus far, but after learning about them, if we get a pup again, we'll buy from a health-tester and an accredited breeder. We are going to get a rescue buddy for Sam in another year or so, when he's older. Getting Sam was a HUGE step for my DH, and he is in no way ready for another baby pup yet.

We paid $1100 for Lucky. We didn't know anything about BYB's at the time. We did know about puppy mills (there is a local one that a lot of people get their dogs from) and we refused to get a puppy from there. I had heard bad things about pet stores too, until we found a pet store that seemed reputable. The dogs came with papers, etc....and we thought that was ok. We ended up getting Lucky from there, but I have since learned that they do NOT get their dogs from reputable breeders. This site has made me learn a lot. We have not had any problems with Lucky yet (crossing fingers), but when we get a buddy for him, we will definitely either find a reputable breeder, or go through a rescue. $800 is a great price if the puppy is from a reputable breeder.

my "Story" too

heyz...

i know what im going to say will drive all of you crazy but it is just the pure truth.......

i bought keeroff(130 euros) (i know it seems a very low price but dont forget that salaries are much different in greece than american.however, most bybs sale boxers at about 250-300euros.but that guy wanted to get rid ot them so bad!)from a stupid byb.
i saw an ad about the puppies and made that phonecall.
there was a guy not more than 30 years old. he said he had found a few years ago his female boxer out at the street and he also had a male brindle..

anyway, i dont know if he wanted the female one to have puppies since he wanted to get rid of them "at once".
the ad: "boxer puppies 50 days old,of rare colours 100 euros each"
the ad was stupid,i know.
i fell in love with him when i saw the photo.... that BABY face....!!!!
i wanted him so much!!!

and now here come the worst parts of the story......

the babies were only 33 days old when i called but he didnt tell me until i asked the exact date of borth for keeroff's health book.he said... "ehm.... i dont remember.but that was the date of the pregnancy's beginning and she was pregnant for 65 days, so you can count and figure out the date of birth.." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i found out that keeroff was only 36 days old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and he was taken away from his mother and brothers even sooner(since i got him from this guy's appartement and his boxer-mother wasnt there.she was at their cottage at a village)
and think about all of his brothers...!! i mean..... since keeroff was the last one for addoption, when were the other babies adopted???in which age??????

jesus christ!!!!

wait..... there is more!!!!! they fed keeroff dry food for ADULTS!!!!his mother's food!!!!!!! he was skinny in legs but his belly was so big! and his fur had a serious problem when i adopted him.

i hate byb!!!!!!! they re....... !@$#@^^*&^*!#!$#!@%# !!!!
however, i love any puppy, any dog, any animal.....
so i dont support back yard breeders but i support those puppies because im always afraid that they will end up strays..... though, good bred puppies are so unlikely to end up strays.

the end

In the Northeast I think you would be hard pressed to find a reputable breeder that sells their puppies for less than $1000. So far I win the prize, we paid $1400 for Guinness, but I had seen breeders that were charging more than that.
