Hi - I'm Julie - proud new momma to Toby. We brought him home last Saturday. My major concern is all of the play biting...it doesn't hurt or anything, but I'm just thinking of what it'll feel like when he is 50 pounds. Not so painless. I've got 2 kids that are ages 5 1/2 and 3 1/2. I've been having them leave the room and not play with Toby if he starts nipping/biting at them, which is happening more and more. I feel terrible that the kids don't get much time to play with him, but then again, I don't want them to get hurt when he starts to get bigger. He now has 7 toys to play with - ropes/Kongs/Nylabone - and if he starts the biting, we say "OUCH" loudly, give him a toy, and say "GOOD TOY" and praise him when he starts playing. We just don't seem to be gaining anything on this - he just seems to start the biting sooner and sooner. The kids aren't torturing him, either...it can start as they walk in the room, and Toby will head straight to them and start nipping at their feet and pants. He is either "on" of "off" -- when he's on, he's running full speed and nipping/playing, or he's off, and is the cutest, snuggliest, cutest little button you've ever seen.
I'm wondering if anyone has any advice/suggestions regarding this.

I think ya'll are doing the right thing in redirecting him to another toy, instead of your fingers/hands! I'm not an expert, but I know that 'biting' is a puppy behavior that some experience. We never really went through that with Asia, but from what I have read on here, that is what I seem to understand.

If you do a 'Search' you might be able to come up with more information! :)

I got Murphy when he was six weeks old. For the first little while he was fine, then he decided that everything was fair play. You have done the right thing by redirecting him to toys. Sometimes it feels like a losing battle but they do grow out of it and stuffies/ pigs ears/ greenies will never be the same again, and I am no longer getting a daily dose of acupuncture......lol. My little (big?) guy is 4 months old now and has stopped biting but definately goes for the shoes ........when you are in them.
