Zane was quite a biter, he's older now and SLOWLY grew out of it. I have heard everything form yelp to let them know they are hurting you to bite them back. I too used the penny can, But now Zane is petrified of any loud noise, I think training with the penny can made him a little jumpy so you might want to rethink that one.
I would try redirecting him when he bites tell him no biting, and then give him something he can chew on. If he continues to bite (which is probably part play and part because dogs like to chew) tell him no biting and then ignore him (leave the room or go to a spot where he can't reach you and totally ignore him). When you resume interacting with him repeat this anytime he bites. He may be too young, he is only a baby, but it can't hurt to start training yourself on how to react and deal when things like this came up. Zane is a year and over the past few months I finally got him to stop mouthing my wrist - and the method I described is how I did it)Also everyone on BW told me to get the book the Dog Listener - her theories make sense, you might want to check it out.
