Hey my 8 month old boxer Weston was neutered wednesday.. He has not really licked the wound wear stitches are but this morning I did notice that the stitches are not holding skin together to tight anymore which is probably a result of the long walk we went for.. He is not bleeding and the skin is still together I put his cone back on his head and then put some polysporin on the area.. It appears to be holding but should I take home back to the vet? Or will it just continue to heal as long as I keep him in active and with his cone

It wouldn't hurt to call your vet and get his advice on the area just to make sure it's ok. Good luck and healing ((((vibes)))) sent your way.

It will still heal, but it will take much longer with gaping holes. My old dog Toby twice chewed staples out of his flesh after surgery, one time leaving a 'sucking leg wound' (as I called it) where the hole was big enough that it drew in air as he moved his leg. (The incision was on the underside of his leg near his groin, thus the air movement.) But it did eventually heal on it's own. I'd still have it checked by a vet though, in case they want to re-stitch it or anything.

Don't put anymore ointment on without talking to your vet! Any moisture my deteriorate the stitches. Thor had a MCT removed and his wound came open. I had to take him in and they put staples in him. May not be the same for you and your pup Weston As Thor wound was very large and very deep. Actually his stitches started to fail because he was oozing too much. So if there is no oozing they will probably leave his as they are.

I think a long walk may have been a little too much strain on the stitches just a couple days post-op. Things like stairs, long walks, and vigorous play should be avoided for the first week or so so the incision has a chance to start to mend. They will close up, but keep an eye on them and I would suggest taking the activity levels down a notch.
