HELLO THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WRITING ALTHOUGH I READ ALOT OF VERY HELPFUL INFO HERE. OUR SWEET BABY BOY WAS JUST DIAGNOSED WITH KIDNEY DISEASE. WE WERE ALERTED BY THREE THINGS. HE IS ALWAYS THIRSTY. HE URINATES TOO FREQUENTLY. HE CAN'T HOLD HIS URINE AT NIGHT AND WETS HIMSELF. WE THOUGHT IT WAS A PUPPY THING, BUT HE WASN'T GROWING OUT OF IT SO WE WENT TO THE VET. THEY DID URINE ANALYSIS AND BLOOD TESTS AND FOUND THAT HIS KIDNEYS ARE NOT FUNCTIONING WELL. THEY SAY HE MAY ONLY LIVE ANOTHER YEAR. WE ARE HEARTBROKEN! WHAT DO WE DO? WAIT FOR HIM TO GET SICK AND GET MORE ATTACHED EVERY DAY . IT IS AGONIZING.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby. Life can be so cruel at times. There are members who may be able to offer help with this awful problem.

Other than that, enjoy every moment you have with him and make the most of it. While we understand and grieve over these things, your baby does not understand what he is facing, and will love you as though he were well.

My heart goes out to you.

Friendly moderator tip: Typing in all caps means you are yelling so if you would kindly refrain from doing that :)

I would look into going with natural treatment and look for a holistic vet in your area. They can help you with this issue and provide unbelieveable support. You can use this link to see if there are any near you:

http://www.ahvma.org/states_and_directory/directory.html

Also use the search button here and look for threads dealing with "kidneys" and "renal failure". You should be able to pull some info from them as well :)

I am so sorry for what you are going through! I think the only thing you can know for sure is that no matter how long he lives he will have a family that loves him. There are member on the boards who have been told their dogs would only live a certain amount of time and their dogs have lived past that. I know it's hard but try to stay positive and make the best out of whatever time he has left. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I am so sorry. I understand what it is like to be given a diagnosis where the disease is terminal. You must educate yourself, search out information in the archives of this site and do searches on the internet. You may be able to give your pup a very good quality of life, even though it will be a short one. Yes, you are going to be very attached, more so everyday. Just remember this is a responsibility as great as having a human child. You would not give up or get rid of a child if they became sick. You are your dogs' whole world, try to learn and grow from this experience. Give the best care you can afford until your dog no longer enjoys life, you will know when the time is right to end any needless suffering. Good luck and don't give up on the unique fulfillment of owning another boxer in the future.

Also, you might want to do some research about the BARF feeding plan (Bones and Raw Food) - many of the members here have noticed a big difference in the health of their dogs switching to that diet. There may be certain food nutients you can feed that will help preserve your dog's kidney function as much as possible. I'm so sorry to hear of your pup's diagnosis - how devastating for you and your family. :(

I am sorry to hear about your baby. Nothing is sadder than losing one of our babies and to have one so young be so sick. :(

However, I would find a holistic vet and also look into a raw diet or BARF. I think you can give your baby more quality time. You want a diet that will give him proper nutrition and put as little stress on his kidneys as possible. The sooner you get started, the better.

The most important thing is to enjoy him and let him have a fun life. Thank heavens, dogs don't understand they are so sick, so he can have a good life.

This is very sad. I am sorry for your problems.

Very recently (about 2 months ago) I was contacted by a person on the east cost. Her boxer pup (a male) was approx the same age as yours when they diagnoised him with kidney failure. She had purchased her pup from a pet store in the state she lived and the puppy had been supplied from the midwest area. Feel free to PM (private message) me if you would like to talk further.
