My 7.5 month old stopped eatin much suddenly. He went from eating ~5 cups a day to maybe 1. Sometimes not eating at all. I don't think it's his appitite because he still is begging for our food. His behavior seems pretty normal other than eating. He is really starting to thin out. He is ~55lbs now (very muscular). Anyone have any ideas?

Mine is on a "hunger strike" right now also! But he's 4 1/2 yrs old...we've determined his cause...there's a female in heat around here. But when Herkie was young, he seemed to go on strike with his food on a regular basis. I used to feed him out of the palm of my hand...try anything to get him to eat. And mostly what he wanted was people food...a horrible habit my ex-bf started smashicon ! Do you free feed or pick up his food after a short time period? If you free feed, you could always start picking his food up after 15 min or so...and he'll start getting the idea. Or you could leave his food down and let him eat when he gets hungry. That's eventually what I had to do with Herkie, otherwise he'd hold out for whatever he could get of ours. But if your dog is healthy, and I'm assuming he is, his natural instinct will kick in...he won't starve himself. Also, you could try sprinkling a little parmesan cheese on his kibble...mine LOVE that.

mine is 8.5 months old and is on/off a hunger strike recently. I think in our case his puppy metabolism where he had to eat everything in site has slowed down.... and now if he doesnt get a lot of exercise one day he doesnt eat. I just dont think he is hungry (he still begs for our food, because he knows how good it is.... I think he would beg for our food even if he were stuffed). We try to get him a good amount of exercise, but sometimes he will have to be home most of the day and not get to run with me or go to the park...and on those days he doesnt eat hardly anything.

Picky

My Nina has just began to be picky (my fault..as i began to add to her kibble)
If i give her JUST kibble with water she will have 2 bites at most....brkf lunch the same and then she eats 1 to 2 cups for dinner.
I just bought some canned food from the same line as her kibble...I add only a very small amount.1tsp..enough for smell and a bit of gravy...i mush it all with my hands...and so far SHE LOVES it!!
I think i will continue to add in...from cottage cheese to parmasan cheese...egg...veggies and so on
Due to the fact that i am a stay at home mom i can prepare it....and in reality...i wouldn't want to eat the same thing every day either!!LOL
I have also learned that dogs will not starve themselves and activity does effect their eating....so if one does not want to start to add in just leave it plain and if they dont eat lunch they usually will eat dinner.
I am still learning all about this....skin babies sure are eaierLOL

I've got a stange dog ?? HELP

Hi,

I have a somewhat similar problem with my dog. I have a 13 month old female.
I also have a 3 Yr. old male. When I feed them at night and sometimes in the morning,The male will usually eat good.He eats his fair share. My female will nibble at the food and most of the time push the bowl around till she dumps it over. When she does eat it is only when duke ,my male dog is in the room with her.He used to be a lite eater when she was younger, letting her get her full share of the bowl. Now that she is older,He will go to the bowl and not move until he is done.He will let her eat with him but he wont slideover for her. When he is done he go lie down somewhere and relax ,leaving her in the room alone.Almost always she will follow him to the next room and not eat.
She is looking thin and I would like to see her eat.I stayed in the room with them and got duke to sit beside me while she hopped around for a sec. then begun to eat on her own first then let duke eat.He still eat good and she eat ok but not like I wish. She was more concerned of duke and me ,than eating.
She is a real touchy feel dog ,loves attention,From us and Duke. What would be the cause of her being so "finiky" ?
Does it have anything to do with Dominence ? Food will be left when duke is done, but it dont matter.
Or, Is it because she is such an attention starved dog, that she would rather
be with duke than eat ?
Is there anything I can do to pick up her eating habits?
Maybe keep them seperated at feedings till she gives in and eats alone ?

I don't know if this helps anybody...when Riley was about 7 months old she too decided that she didn't want to eat anymore. At that time, I was feeding her Purina One mixed with wet food. So I switched her to Iams...still no luck (which is good b/c those foods were crap anyway). I would sit on the floor and beg Riley to eat because it got to the point were she wasn't eating anything, but seemed active and otherwise healthy. I then switched her to Chicken Soup and she started eating again...the best thing was that she would eat it dry w/o wet food mixed in. She's been on Chicken Soup for the last few months and loves it!

I suppose when Riley hit her picky puppy period I just had to choose a food that she enjoyed.

What is Chicken soup ???

I have heard several different forums that mention "chicken soup" as an additive for dry food and such. What is chicken soup ??? Is it chicken soup
as in "cambells" can soup ? or is it an additive that is sold at pet stores ?
I would like to find some. My dog is so finiky and skinny. Yes she is very active but is still a very light eater.
