6 month old puppy throwing up & diarrhea...

Fenway, my 6 month old puppy was treated about a month or so ago for worms. He seemed fine after the medication. All of a sudden the throwing up has started again and he has horrible diarrhea. Sometimes it just looks like a clear liquid and other times there may be a slight discoloration (possibly a little blood). I changed his food about 2 weeks ago from Royal Canin to Nutro - Puppy. Do you think he still has the worms and that is what is causing this? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. Signed worried mom.

Sorry to hear Fenway is not feeling well :(

I personally would call Fenway's vet to have him seen. The two symptoms of vomitting and diarhea together could be due to any one of the many illnesses that boxers are prone to, or it could have something to do with the change in food, i.e., did you do in gradually?

When Barron has had vomitting and diarhea in the not so recent past, I have taken him off of his regular kibble (which is Canidae) or have given him a
canned dog food prescribed by his vet; I ALWAYS consult with his vet, first.

I would recommend that you do the same, as your vet is the best person to determine the cause and then recommend the best course of treatment. Good luck!

Barron's mom is right but a friend of mine just lost her puppy to Parvo which is a highly contageous (sp) disease that has the same symptoms. good luck

My boy just went through a bout with round worms. He had bad diarhea. At first the vet treated him with medicine for round worms, and still the same. She then switched medicine to an all inclusive medicine that would not only treat round worms, but others that may not show up on the slide. She also gave him some pills to settle down his colon. He's much better now, but we will repeat three days of medicine next week.

We had similar issues when we first got Sasha, she had coccidia. I would of course suggest calling the vet, but we were recommended to put yogurt in her food (yogurt will all active ingredients) as well as cottage cheese. Something with the cottage cheese helps fight potential parasites. Also I suggest rice to start her off with, this will bind her up. Best of luck, I remember how stressful it was when Sasha was sick

Follow-Up on Fenway

Thanks to all who responded to my original post. Fenway's vet informed me that he may have an allergy to food. We are starting the week-long diet of boiled white rice and very small amounts of low-fat cottage cheese (what you had suggested SASHABERRY). He is worm free, no other infections (i.e. gi, corona, or other parasites ). Will keep you posted on the findings.
