Hey everyone, my family have a six month old boxer who we love to death. She is awesome with our kids & even whenever anyone comes over to our house. Just playful & friendly as can be.

Lately though whenever we go out, and there are a bunch of kids around, Sandy (the boxer) is nipping & growling at the kids. This is just tearing us up, because we want to be able to take her with us wherever we go.

Is this pretty normal behavior for that age? Will she grow out of it? Just wondering.

Typical puppy behavior. He's trying to engage you in play.

Please do a search here at Boxerworld using the search button at the top of each page and use search terms such as "nipping" and "biting" and you will find tons of useful information on how to deal with this common issue. Also check out the links on the left side of the "puppy" pages here at Boxerworld http://www.boxerworld.com/puppy/

Good luck.

Blade growled at 6 weeks old :(

I didn't even know they could at that age. So I made it a point to introduce him to all types of situations, people, places and things so he wouldn't be afraid or too threatening. I am happy to say at 1 year 3 months he is a perfect pet! Yes he barks and growls but it is only at unfamilar noises and/or people that surprise him. Appropriate dog behavior. Keep introducing him to different environments and reinforcing appropriate behavior and I am sure she will be just fine.

max did the same thing at that age the snipping and growling, he was doing it too play, but didnt relize his sharp teeth hurt, We started tapping him with a newspaper when he started to do that. Eventually all we would have to say is i am getting the newspaper and he would stop.

Mylo use to nip pretty often. He's 6 months old. We've been using this can with coins. He hates the noise and it's working so far. Good luck.

Max still does this at 8mos and I wish I eliminated it earlier. He is only playing but he can hurt you and not realize it when he comes running full speed and stomps his paws on your back. He can also strip you of your sweat pants. I am now trying to eliminate it by leaving the room which is gated so he can't get at me. If I walk away he will just bite my rear end. I have found that timeouts work the best.
