hey i just got a brand new boxer puppie at 5 weeks ive read that taking him from his family so early can cause problems when they get older and that socializing the puppie with other dogs can help i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas for me and also if anyone else has had problems with such young puppies growing up to mean or have other problems.

We brought Jack home at almost 6 weeks. It was against my better judgement but everything turned out great.
Don't take him any place public or at least don't let him walk around.
Jack didn't like the kibble too much so I bought baby food (meat) and watered down the kibble and mixed it all up.
Also we started potty training right away and it was a breeze.

How are things?
Judging from the date of your last message, you have had Ollie for a few weeks now. Hope all is well.
I was in your position a few months ago. I brought Linus home at barely 6 weeks old. My breeder didn't see any problem with this so we gladly obliged. Linus cried (.. and I mean really cried) all of the time whether he was in our arms or in his crate. We called a breeder half way across the country from us to get a neutral opinion and she mentioned that it was normal for pups to cry at that age because they should be with their littermates. Her ultimate advice was TONS of TLC and extra special treatment (ie sleeping on bed or hand feeding etc..) for the first few weeks. Bad habits are easier to break than having to deal with a dog that has emotional issues.
(We had runny poop problems as well :eek: the vet recomended a bit of fiber like metamucil to firm things up!!)
