Hey guys,
I recently rescued a little 4 week old old. Puppy from a house which apparently has been abandoned. He's been a well behaved puppy and has completely recoovered from the shock and is playful and active. But I have a few questions regarding his behavior. I've never had a dog so it's a learning curve for me.
1. He has started sleeping through the night for 5 to 6 hours at a stretch but he wakes up early in the morning and starts whining at the door to get out. So I take him out to pee and let him run around for a bit.. I have a garden inside so I don't run the risk of having other dogs.. He's safe behind a gate and a wall. But when I get him. Back and put him in his bed ke keeps jumping out and running to the door and starts howling. Then I have to sit next to his bed and keep him in my lap till he's asleep.. But the moment I put him back in his bed he wakes up and does the same cycle till his feeding. Time which is usually 2 hours after.
2. He's very bitey and has a hard bite for obvious reasons and I can't give negative reinforcement by takin treats away since he's just on baby food as of now. But he starts growling at my slippers and literally attacks them and munches on them. Is that growling behavior normal?
3. Since the vet estimates his age to be 5 when would be a good time to start training him.. We've not seen any poop accidents inside the home coz immediately after feeding I take him. Outside and for the past 4 days he's been a good puppy and has been pooing outside in the garden..How can I give positive reinforcement at this age. Or should I just continue this till I can give him treats.
4. He's started learning how to say please. He knows his feeding place in the house and goes there and sits and looks at me with typical puppy dog eyes and drooped ears.. That I think I'm very happy to see.
