I am definitely no expert on a 4 week old pup but I do know this much... DO NOT FEED PURINA PUPPY CHOW. Find a better food than this!

I beleive you should look into getting milk raplacer to wet down the kibble with and/or to supplement this. Please don't rely on your vet for nutritional information, they know a lot of things but generally speakingmost don't know much of anything abou tnutrition. Puppy Chow is one of the worst foods out there. Not the worst but as far as nutrition content it is one of the worst. PLease reasearch other kibbles and try something like canidae, chicken soup, wellness, and some of the other high end foods. Your boy is very yougn and really needs better nutritional support. He can live on puppy chow, but it's not the bst thing for him especially seeing as how they didn't get the best nutrition from mom, they need the best they can get to help ensure healthier longer lives. Good luck.

She's home!

Thanks for all of your advice. She's home now.....has been for a week and she's 5 weeks and 1 day. She did have worms and we got strongid for it (have to give her another dose on Saturday). Now we're trying to work on her biting. She's good most of the time but sometimes when we try to pet her or when we're playing, she'll open her mouth to bite. We tell her no bite and give her a chew toy and most of the time it works but she's fiesty around my two year old (likes to bite at his ankles).
We are letting her go to the bathroom on paper but now I'm hearing that puppies that are paper trained have a hard time when it's time for them to elarn going outside. When can I start taking her out to go? It's WAY to cold in NY right now (-1 this morning).
I appreciate all of the advice. I'm going to get her together with my best friend's female pomeranian this week so they can play. I'm kind of hoping that she becomes some type of surrogate mother to Sheeba. I guess we'll see.

Just a note of warning, being so young still and not having had her pupy shots do be careful about her interacting with other dogs much or taking her places where other dogs have been because she could pick up an illness. She probably doesn't need milk replacer at 5 weeks but do pick a good kibble (not the stuff from the supermarket) for her if that's they way you are going and make it soft enough for her to start with. Good luck with your baby!

Thankful for responsible breeder

Our puppy had to be weaned early as well due to mama's mastitis but our breeder is keeping the litter until they have reached 8 weeks.

I know it's a lot of work for the breeder but she's committed to breeding healthy and well socialized puppies. The time spent researching responsible breeders is already paying off and we feel very fortunate.
