Today I visited my local shelter. It is a very high kill shelter, located in Bakersfield California. The Kern County Animal Shelter. My husband and I saw 4 boxers. 3 classic fawn females brought in together, 2 about 1 yr, the other maybe 4yrs. They all were very underweight, the mother with some obvious battle scars. All extremely friendly welcoming my husband and I with the typical boxer wiggle. The other boxer was a large , seemingly healthy white male. Also very friendly. The staff told me they put down 3-5 purebred boxers a week!! Please can anyone help me save these babies. I tried to email the LA boxer rescue but my email was returned. I am willing to do whatever possible to get them out of there. Can anyone give me any advice? Anyone close by the could help, there is no way I could house the 4 of them plus my own, also the shelter will not let me take all four. I wil contact LA Boxer rescue by phone also. Please any advice appreciated. They were all so full of boxer love , I cant get them out of my head.

Thank you so much for your advice so far. I have had no luck as of yet. I am still waiting to hear back from some of the larger groups and so far the smaller all breed rescues are full to capacity. I am still making calls this morning to rescues and friends to see if anyone can help. I still have 2 hours until the shelter opens. I can bring one home with me, as the shelter knows I have 2 dogs and we have a three dog limit. I welcome any advice or information. Thanks again.

Gabriel,

I believe the original post, dated 8.17.02, stated that she visited the Kern County Animal Shelter on that day and saw the four boxers.
