3 year old not eating

Hi! I have my boxers on Acana 2 cups a day split into two meals and I add a small amount of wet food to that...they don't get table food or scraps and get a treat if I have to leave them in the crate, they only like the Merrick lamb lungs ( very picky about treats! ). My Laila turned 3 in May and has always loved her meals...I have noticed lately that there are some days that she isn't "licking the bowl clean" as she always has and leaves some kibble behind...she acts normal, stools are normal but I am wondering if this is normal as she is a little older now....she is certainly not underweight has always been a little chunky even at the age of 8 weeks never has had ribs showing...she is not a huge boxer and her top weight at last visit was 53 pounds..my other, Frazier, from the same breeder and maternal line is built so different more long and lanky showing some ribs and eats what Laila leaves behind!! Any thoughts???

Are you possibly feeding her too much? My girl is 62 pounds and eats 2 cups of food a day so I'm wondering if maybe you're just feeding her too much. Maybe cut back her food amount by 1/4 of a cup per day and see if that makes any difference?

I wondering if you have tried a walk before feeding??? Normally a dog will eat anything aand im wondering if you took her on a long walk if she would eat after??? How often does she get out for runs/walks????

Thanks for the replies!! Laila gets out for a walk daily, but with the weather so hot lately they haven't been as long as usual..she doesn't like the heat....we also have a fenced in yard and they are out often and like to run at night as it gets cooler...I have cut back her food a little and was thinking that maybe she is just getting a little "older"! The past few days have been a mix of eating it all or leaving some...otherwise she seems fine! I will keep an eye on it...

Heat also can have a lot to do with it. I know when it gets really hot here my dogs will not always eat as much. I know I don't feel like eating a lot when it gets hot!
Also, have you thought about rotating food? Sometimes they do get a little bored with their meals. Think about having to eat the same thing every day. You might want to find a food that is similar in ingredients to what you are feeding and rotate every third bag or so. Just a thought!

The heat and the fact that she is not getting as much exercise would definitely be a factor. I would definitely cut back on the food.

Johann isn't a big fan of eating when it's really hot outside....the first few weeks of summer he always drops some weight because of this.

That being said, 4 cups of Acana seems like a lot of food in a day. Johann is 84 lbs (not fat, just way too tall ) and he eats 2.5 cups a day plus another 1/2 cup mixed with peanut butter in his kong.

I hope her appetite picks back up soon. Maybe try feeding her a bit less to see if that helps.

Hi Johann! Thanks for the reply...I think you misunderstood...Laila only gets 2 cups a day total divided into a cup at breakfast and one at supper..and not a heaping cup at that...not four...I think the heat has a lot to do with it and I do rotate the food bags too for variety...she seems happy and ok so I will just cut back a bit and find a happy medium! We worry about our babies don't we!!
