My friend has this very nice cat who has visited her house each day for the past six months. About a month ago, the cat had kittens in their hay shed. A week later, the cat's owners (neighbors a couple of houses away) arrived with a box, demanding their cat and the one week old kittens, which they then took back to their house.

The same cat has suddenly stopped coming by her house recently and my friend fears the worst. (hit by a car, killed by a Raccoon or Coyote, etc).

Yesterday, my friend was backing her truck up into a garage on another piece of property she owns (this property is very close to her house if you simply go through the woods) and she heard this very loud "mewing". She looked up and this smal kitten was just about to fall out of the rafters of the garage! My friend called her Mom and with her Mom's and FIL's help, got all six kittens down.

Momma cat is nowhere to be found at this point. Along comes the cat's owners again, asking my friends husband if he's seen any kittens. Since he didn't know anything about the found kittens yet, he answered no.

So now, my friend has these three week kittens to feed and take care of. She got some sort of Cat milk formula from the Vet and got some advice from them on how to take care of these babies.

Personally, I wouldn't put it past the Momma Cat's owners to keep her locked up in their house - trying to force my friends hand in giving up the kittens. To me - if the Cat's owners ARE doing this, then they're guilty of letting these kittens starve to death on purpose to prove a point- which makes me livid.

Bottom line, if my friend ever see's this Momma cat again, she's going to pay to have her spayed. This is twice now that the Cat has had kittens on her property and she probably hid the kittens up int he rafters this time, so her owners wouldn't come take them all away.

Any advice on how to take care of these helpless babies would be very much appreciated! She does know the basics, but could use all the help she can get!

I've never had to raise foster kittens but have hand raised raccoons and pot belly pigs. The best thing to do is keep them on a feeding schedule. With my raccoons I used to get up every 2 hours and feed them. You also have to make sure that you make then go potty on a regular schedule. I weaned both the raccoons and the pigs using cream of wheat, first making it really runny, then slowing firming it up until they could eat something the consistency of canned cat food. Personally, I wouldn't admit to having the kittens. The owners obviously are irresponsible letting the mother roam without being spayed. I understand the need for barn cats but there is no excuse for breeding your own when so many cats and kittens are in shelters.

I got a recipe from a local cat rescue when the neighbor's cat had kittens on my porch (one of the many times)

A can of evaporated milk
one egg yolk
a tablespoon of Corn syrup (sounds like a lot to me)

I have used this recipe successfully and have known of a litter of puppies who were raised on this forumla exclusively. Given that they are 3 weeks old now, they will soon be ready to start trying some solid food. Keep them warm and on a regular feeding schedule. Make sure they are stimulated to go potty.

I hope they make it and shame on the neighbor...

My friend called me this morning and she barely got any sleep last night! She was up feeding them every two hours :) If it were me, I wouldn't admit to having the kittens either. Apparently, the owners have all sorts of cats that run around, and none of them are altered. I really want one of the kittens, however DH has Asthma and is allergic to them, so I have to respect him. Four of them are Calico's! I will tell her about the cream of wheat too. Thanks for the advice!
