3 Dogs Humping...

I have read some previous threads about this kind of thing .. but have not found the answer I am looking for .... so please forgive me!!!

I have 3 Dogs ... 2 Boxers, 1 male, 1 female (5 months) and a Collie female (2years) ..

When they play .. they tend to play rough (as boxers do!!!) and they all get excited.... Here's the question ... All 3 of the Dogs like to "hump" the other dogs... doesn't seem to matter which one they "hump" just any!! I understand from the other threads that they are trying to establish dominance over the other dogs .. sometimes one will hump the other.. and the other one will jump on the back and start humping away too!!! .. 3 Dogs Humping!!

My husband seems to think that we should only allow Simba the male dog to hump, and to try to stop Sasha and Benjie the females from humping, as he says its not natural for girls to hump ??!! I am not too sure about this theory, he probably just thinks that as he is male!!! ....

Are you supposed to stop females from humping each other?? If you are, how do you go about doing this?!!!!!!!!!

The only hump each other... they have not done it to me, or my HB or anyone else..

So.. anyone have any advise on this?? Or should I just let it be, and let them establish who is alpha???

My guys do it and so do my friends dogs and they are female, I'm told it dominance. When visitors are around I usually stop them other than that I leave them alone.

Humping - For some dogs, humping is part of their play and mutually acceptable to owners. Some owners however are offended by this, more so than the dogs. If it is not mutually acceptable, do your best to separate the dogs. If the dogs return to each other to continue play, this may indicate they are both happy in their play.

Dogs hump for the following reasons; to mock behavior seen in other dogs, because it feels good, to gain higher ranking, due to hormonal responses and/or because it is self-rewarding or has been inadvertently rewarded by their owners. Some dogs may have hip problems and cannot cope with the added weight, therefore they react in an unpleasant manner. Regardless of the reason, humping can trigger unwanted behavior and again, as a courtesy, you should interrupt your dog's humping actions. You will notice that some dogs continue to hump (the air) even after they have been pulled off the other dog. This is because humping is involuntary, just as your heart beats.

Humping is not always a sign of expressing dominance over another dog. Dogs hump when they are excited and of course, they get plenty excited when they play.

Your husband's theory would, in fact, create hierarchy problems, not resolve them. Tell him to put his male ego back in his pants and not worry about females humping.

I have 3 dogs (2 female, 1 male) and they all hump one another. Sex is not an issue when it comes to humping; only if the female is in heat.

Relax and let them play and hump. And let's all get over our obsession about humping!!! Geez!
