Hey all! About a month ago I wrote about how my 5 1/2 yr old girl just had 4 lumps removed and within a day of surgury i found two more lumps! Of the 4 removed only one was a dreaded mass cell, level 2 cancer. Pathology said the margins were clean and wide though! Yes!!! That's a prayer answered! Well, one of the new lumps I found was in the area that was shaved for lump removal and it went away within the week. it was quite flat and squishy so i assume it was a hematoma (sp?) or something related to the surgury? But the lump on her neck has remained. The vet said it's got to come off because she has already had one mass cell. So I guess she'll have surgury again. I am going to need a valumm (i have no idea on spelling?) for that day! i thought i was going to pass out waiting for her to get out of the last surgury! Her temp droped and they had to bring her out early. Anyone else get insanely nervouse during times like this? She's my baby and I have no skin kids! I have loved boxers since the moment i got Bella and knew i always wanted at least one boxer in the house but this has scared the crap out of me. It has really made me question getting the second boxer i was planning on this comming summer or ever having another. I just don't know if i'm strong enough to deal with another baby that could have the same issues. At the same time I wonder could i love another breed as much? Could I ever love another dog as much? i think this whole process has brought me to the reality that she will not be with me forever and is no longer a spring chicken. i'm guess i'm working through my feelings. Sorry to put my worry and confusion out there, thanks for listening and any advice!!!!!

I've been through the lump removal thing a few times already. J.C. just got the stitches out of his tail Tuesday from the last one. So far only one was a tumor, but I just can't take any chances. My biggest fear is that I am going to go broke paying vet bills!

Sorry you and your girl are going through this. It is torture when they are not well and imagining what could happen. My older boxer was very sick early on and a good friend convinced to get a second as she was so worried how I would cope if I lost Fraze. So I got my Ailis who I adored but she succumbed to BCM at three years-I was devestated but Fraze was my solace. So I guess they all come to us for a reason and , like you, I cannot imagine not having boxers with me. I hope your girl is well and is with you for a very, very long time. My guys (oh, yeah, I have my Nysa girl now and Fraze is going strong) are sending boxer wiggles to your girl :)

I absolutely understand what you are saying. Even with all the drama some of our Boxers bring - I would not have any other breed of dog. We have 2 - 8 month old littermates and Rudy has had everything (a lump removed, mange, allergic reactions etc...I'm afraid the vet will accuse me of making things up) and my Duke has been healthy as can be!

I have extra valium - be happy to share. Hang in there.

Yes, unfortunately, Boxers are cursed with these horrible things. I too have no skin kids...Harley was my kid and as heartbroken as I still am over losing him last month, I know I will love another. My life just has this emptiness now that I know can only be filled by another Boxer somewhere out there that needs me as much as I need him. I had almost 8 wonderful years with Harley...nobody can brighted up your day the way a Boxer can and that makes it all worth it! Hang in there.

Hi there,

I know how you feel, Martin is scheduled to have a lump removed later next week and he is 5 1/2 years old and i am also thinking that he won't be with me forever... BUT... the time that each one of us has to go or our pets are to go is unknown... we take too many things for granted and we ignore the possibility that every single time we go out of our door there is a chance we won't be coming back and every time we go to bed there is indeed a possibility that we won't wake up.

Having said that, i wouldn't trade the love and joy that Martin has brought me with another dog even if it was guaranteed to live a longer and possibly healthier life.

I understand your pain as i am going through there myself, the anxiety, the worry, the constant worrying, agony and the pain and distress of "what if" something goes wrong or worse...

On the other hand, even that is a small price to pay for having a boxer's love and devotion for as little or as much time as given...

I hope that all of us will enjoy many many happy and healthy years with our boxers, but even if some of us don't, we will support eachother and share the gift of being loved by a boxer.

Me and Martin are wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery...

Irene. Martin & Boulou
