2nd boxer--10 week old girl, day #2

Boxer Booster
We added a lovely, lovely flashy brindle girl to our household yesterday. She came from awesome breeders (I can thank boxerworld for knowing what awesome breeders are!). She's not eating much yet (probably half of her food) but slept pretty well and we're watching for her signs and she hasn't had any accidents in the house. Her 2.5 year old big brother (not biologically!) thinks she's really something--he keeps trying to lay on her but other than that shares all of his toys and slept next to her crate last night. He woke her up at 4:30 by bumping the crate--I think he wanted to make sure she was okay!

She does--her name is Robin. Her "brother's" name is Moon. My husband keeps calling them "Batmoon and Robin"--haha.
Any suggestions for getting him to play gently with her?--she's pretty spunky and bites his ears with her sharp little puppy teeth which whips him in to a frenzy! He's got such nice bite pressure (as in, none at all) thanks to a golden retriever that was his best friend and helped raise hiim--but he does sometimes use his paws (I guess he is a boxer after all!) to kind of poke at her. I've tried "gentle" but he doesn't know that one very well. He's great at "leave it" so I use that but it seems like I'm using it an awful lot--we're showering him with attention too so that he feels happy about the additional boxer baby. Thanks for everyone's encouragement!

Congatulations on your new addition! As for the food, each dog is different. Scrappy eats way more food than Katie, who is 15 pounds lighter, but she is older also. I recommend weighing your puppy regularly on the bathroom scale while young enough to pick up. Simply weigh together, than yourself and subtract. Ask your vet to determine how quickly she should be gaining weight, or look for physical signs of weight health. Our vets office has a chart that describes how much fat should be felt, what the waist should look like,etc.
