Hello

I just got my first complaint from the neighbors that my 2 year old Male boxer (Hercules) is whining and yelping while left alone in his kennel. The kennel is a decent size with blankets, straw, coverage from elements, toys, water and usually a nice bone or raw hide for chewing.

He doesnt carry on too bad when he knows we're home, however when we leave him for a couple hours alone durring the day when we go to work or for a day trip he carries on pretty good and doesn't quit.

He is a whiny dog in general and not very responsive to quitting this behaviour.

Any good suggestions for an older dog with this problem? My neighbors would certainly appreciate it and so would I.

Thanks

It sounds like your boxer is outside. Boxers are really not outside dogs. I would bring him inside, he will be much happier. Has something changed, or has your neighbour just not complained before? A lot of exercise before you go to work would be a good idea. A tired dog is a good dog! Boxer are also people dogs and need to be with their family, not out in a kennel. If you don't want him in your life :( maybe you need to find him a new home.

I need help with a barking dog...

Last night I also got my first complaint from a neighbor. Aside from the fact he's stoned out of his mind 98% of the time I'm surprised he noticed. I apologized and am deligently trying to get Thumper to stop. I have 2 boxers, both females a little over 1 1/2 years old. Jazz is great and only barks right after she goes out in the morning, she wants in she's hungry. Thumper is my head case....she will bark and bark and bark. I know it has to be upsetting the neighbors and aside from gluing her lips shut I don't know what else to do. I briefly tried the barking collar (didn't have the heart for it) I've tried toys, food, water. I know you're not supposed to scold them when they bark or they get the upper hand, but now I feel like I have to be on the dead run to get them in before they're done squatting. They are also inside dogs so they aren't out very much, for extended periods of time. They get exercise. There are some cats in the nighborhood that I think are sadistic enough to tease the girls since they can't get to them. Thump barked for probably 5 minutes last night when I was inside doing some cleaning. I was on my way out to get her when he called. He threatened to come over and shoot her. I actually kept my composure (unusual for me in a case like this), apologized and told him I really didn't think it would need to go that far. This guy is somewhat psychotic (sp) so you never know. But I do need help. Any advice would be appreciated since my other option is to let my 14 year old daughter egg his house. Her idea not mine.

Plus I live in rural Nebraska I have wild turkeys and deer in my back yard and we live in town, so a barking dog is annoying but not unusual.
Thanks

When you say "the barking collar" are you talking about the ones that give a shock when they bark? :( If that's the case I can certainly understand you not wanting to use it, The Citronella collar would be an alternative, which is reasonably humane as it just sprays a citronella scent when they bark and it often works very well. It would be worth a try. :)

Yeah, the one I tried was the shock collar. I didn't see the citronella collars. Yesterdaay Thumper did so well. Maybe it was the "talk" we had. Or I was just in a panic over the neighbor. I will find a collar and try that. Do you think she is too old? She's not an idiot just stubborn.
