Hi. I have a 2 year old Male Fawn Boxer and he always seems to have a discharge in his private part. He usually licks it off and he does this quite often. It is usually a whiteish to a yellowish color and it is comes out hourly it seems. I remember back when we took him to the vet well over a year ago and the vet said don't worry about it as long as he keeps himself clean. That was fine and dandy but this don't seem to be normal anymore. Does this sound like some sort of infection. I did a search here and didn't see to much on this topic so I started my own. Thanks in advance for any help.

Is he neutered by chance?

When the vet looked at it last, did he test him for a bladder or urinary tract infection? That would probably be my first course of action, as the dripping/discharge can sometimes be a sign of that.

Let us know

Yes, he is neutered. The vet didn't seem to concerned about it at the time and there were not any tests taken. But then again Ryan was very young and I guess the vet thought that it was normal or whatever it is will pass. I'm going probably end up taking him in since it may be an infection.

Henry wakes up each morning with this discharge too. He licks it off and then it doesn't reappear till the next morning. (he is neutered)
A lab I had years ago ( not neutered) used to have this also on a morning when he woke up and the vet had told me this was normal - that was 10 yrs ago though.
I hadn't worried about it until I saw your post.
Maybe I should have Henry checked.

It's normal on male dogs and it's probably the most asked question of vets when people get puppies. It's not pretty but I really don't think it's a problem.

balanoposthitis

We just took our 5 month old pup to the vet for the same type of symptoms. He was diagnosed with balanoposthitis. I just posted on it a few minutes ago (my post is tiltled, balanoposthitis).

Thanks. I'll just take him in to the vet and see what they say. Hopefully it is something that will be taken care of with a simple antibiotic.
