HELP!!! my husband and I thought we wanted another boxer baby to join our one year old male. We got her yesterday, brought her home, and my one year onld male is nuts now!!! He won't quit sniffing, licking her. I was up all night long (they both will sleep with me) Should we separate them in kennels/ or just wait it out and hope he gets used to the new baby in the house!!! He also is "pawing" at her. I don't think he means to hurt her, but he's so much bigger than she is. She's 9 weeks old/ he's one year old and 60 lbs. ANY help you guys could give me who own two or more babies thanks a million!!!!

Give them a little time to get use to each other. I know when our 2 first meet each other, they investigated and played with each other for almost 2-3 days straight. I specifically remember thinking, if this keeps up Titus (the youngest) is nver going to get any sleep. After a few days it settled down and while they still play tons, they also let each other sleep, etc.

I would watch to make sure your older one isn't too rough but the pup will let him know if he is...so I wouldn't worry about it. I use to think that Tucker was going to hurt Titus but with in a few days it will be your pup who is chewing on your big boy and then you will start to think that the puppy is hurting your older one.

Once they settled into each other, prepare yourself for boxer nascar in the the house!! They will be racing and chasing each other!

Oh boy.....I remember that.!!

It WILL get better. I know how hard it can be when you are nervous, they are nervous and everything seems like chaos (rather, everything IS chaos).

Hang in there. By this Friday, you'll be calmed down, they'll be getting along much better and all will be well.

Oh my! try keeping a 65lb boxer from kissing to death a 5lb Boston! LOL! Things will definitely get better. They are just getting to know each other. I personally would not seperate them as it may make a bad impression on them. As everyone else said it will probably calm down in a few days after they each realize the other is there to stay! Good luck and Congrats! What is your new babie's name?

I have to agree on not separating them either....Sasha sat and would just bark at Telmar for 20 min non stop....but we let them work it out on their own...It took a month for them to truly be adjusted! She is still SO jealous of ANY attention Telmar gets...if we are petting him....she will run and find the nearest toy to squeak because she knows it will divert him from HER daddy!! Its hilarious and annoying at times too!! They will be fine....we would not let Sasha be mean...but for the most part we let them work it out for themselves!

Thanks ya'll.....
By this afternoon they were really playing w/each other. She was even barking and growling at him playing... giving him a run for his money!!!
Let's just hope they both sleep tonight so that i can get some rest!!!!
Still undecided on a name for our baby girl. Our male is Zeus, so we're between Zoey (which i like spelled Xoe) or Gussy. Both of their dad's name is Gus.... let you know.. thanks again!!!

settled down somewhat/ kennel together?

Zeus and Zaida have started to settle down somewhat. He can't stand to be out of her sight. I'm still worried that they play too rough w/each other. Last night they were running around playing in our back yard. She was grabbing him by his jowels, he was nipping at her ears. Just wondering if this is normal play??? She's also started to take his chews and her chews... she seems to want it all ( just like a human female i guess ... " what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine")
Also, what is your opinion on kenneling them both together when we leave the house? I put them both in the same kennel yesterday morning for about 2 hours. I was worried to death that when I came home that my baby girl would have an eye or ear missing... but they seemed to be fine when i returned home.... thanks for advice...

Rough play like that is totally normal especially for boxers, as she gets bigger it will probably get even rougher - its always fun to watch - who needs a TV when you can watch 2 boxers playing :)

Personally I would crate them seperately, I think its important for them to have a place to call their own but you can put the crates right next to each other for company.

Congratulations on your new pup.

What you a describing in terms of play is totally normal in my house. My pup use to use Tucker as his chew toy and his little teeth just torn through his fur...but Tucker didn't mind at all and use to play right back. They will tell each other if one is being too rough, so unless your pup cries out or such, they are just playing. We joke that the neighbors are going to think we fight them since they play so rough and so loud. At first I would stop them and they would look at me like, hello, what is the problem we are playing and I would give them the okay and they were back at it within seconds.

Titus, my pup, use to take everything away from Tucker and up until he was about 5 months, Tucker would generally let him. At 4-5 months he lost his puppy privledges and Tucker started to say, enough...but with chew toys they still switch every 10 minutes or so.

I agree with Adelle about crating separately. My boy absolutely adores the girl we just adopted, but she's more energetic and wears him out. I've noticed that when he's really exhausted and doesn't want to play anymore, he goes in his crate and she leaves him alone then. I think it's important for each dog to have a place to "escape" and relax if they want to.
