I had to go through a similar situation with my husband and my cat. I ended up giving the cat to family so I could still go by and visit. Perhaps you have friends or family around that could do the same for you.

You might want to try air cleaners also like the sharper image air purifier. It is a little pricey but it works great for me.

My friend has allergies and Asthma Attacks to she bought a really expensive air purifier she keeps by her bed and never lets the dogs in her room, the purifier came from some special place not just from a store, removing carpets and dander collectors would help also.

I have allergies (dogs, cats, dust mites, trees, grass...you name it) and asthma. What works for me is no carpeting, making sure the animals are all brushed daily (helps a LOT with the shedding), and meds. I take Pulmicort for asthma, and while I *should* be on a daily allergy medication, I opt to take it only during the "bad times" of the year (spring, fall, mostly).

I've ALWAYS had pets, and I've ALWAYS been allergic, and have had asthma since I was 12. Honestly, I think for *me* it's a matter of controlling the symptoms so that I can enjoy my furbabies. I can't IMAGINE a house without a couple of cats and a Boxer now! Yes I have my "bad days", but for the most part, I'm perfectly content. :)

Good luck - you've gotten a LOT of great ideas here.

My daughter has asthma, but it's not pet related. My husband has to smoke outside though because cigarette smoke worsens it considerably.

Hi there!!! My husband has athsma and allergies to pets as well!!!!! We too had to put in wooden floors (which helped a great deal)! We also have an air purifier which collects allergens from the air!!!! He's done much better from these changes!!! However, I have to ask you.... Has your DH tried Advair?????????? It's a miracle drug!!!!!! My DH barely needs his inhaler anymore if you can believe it! Unfortunately it's somewhat expensive (depending on what insurance you carry)! Just a thought!!!! :)
