We have a 6 year old boxer bitch (tan with small white patch) who's temperament is perfect. Have just been offered 4 month old male white boxer (not seen it yet). What are the pros and cons of having a 2nd dog and will one bitch/one dog cause problems? Our bitch has had "the op" and i would do the same to the male (when old enough). My worry is whether the male may attack the bitch or try to mount it? I would hate to spoil the lovely personality of our present boxer. Any tips please?

If both dogs seem to get along with other dogs, you shouldn't have any problems and they will probably be best buddies! You could go ahead and have the pup neutered now -- 6 months is the most common age, but many people do it earlier than that. Mounting with fixed dogs is really more of a dominance issue. I have a male and I'm currently fostering a female -- both fixed. She mounts him all the time -- she is the dominant dog and that shows in a lot of ways. Frequently she gets the wrong end -- it is definitely not about sex. One time he decided to try turning the tables and tried to mount her-- she very quickly let him know that was not acceptable and they returned to playing. He hasn't tried again!
Went to see the white boxer. It is almost completely deaf, has massive paws (which probably means it's going to be big!) and hasn't had it's tail cut. Also, it's mother isn't very friendly and doesn't look like a true boxer. So, we've decided to wait for the right one to come along. Before we bought Sandy, we visited the pups from birth on numerous occassions and chose the one we wanted on the second visit. Sandy's mother is very good natured and let us view the pups from close range. Thankfully, Sandy too has same nature. She is the perfect dog and i doubt we would ever find another one as good as her.
