2 Boxers attack elderly woman in Charlotte

I heard this evening on the news that a boxer attacked an elderly woman, the news said she was trying to protect her dog.When I looked it up on the internet....it says it was 2 Boxers who had escaped from their yard, and attacked her in her own driveway.She had to get stitches in her head, and a tooth from one of the dogs may be in her leg.The boxers have been quarantined for 10 days, and as of yet their fate is not known.

I feel sorry for the woman, but I also feel for the boxer owners.This is so unlike boxers, but I guess you never know.I am truly at a loss for words.I do hope they give these dogs a pardon, and I really hope that they aren't vicious, and that something triggered these animals.

I agree, that is terrible and very un-boxer like. I also watched the video, and it shows a high chain link fence and a dog house. Sounds to me like the dogs may be "outside" dogs.

Since there are so many knowledgeable boxer owners on here, isn't it possible that something like this could happen if the dogs were kept in the backyard and not socialized?

It's an awful story, regardless. Hopefully they somehow got the breed wrong and they're not really boxers. If they are.... that's something that will affect us all. And I feel bad for the dogs, because if they were really mean like that most likely it's either from poor breeding or because they've been mistreated or something.

I am truly sorry that anyone might be attacked by a dog(s).

However, I can't imagine that two boxers attacked an elderly woman.

Where is the evidence they were boxers. I having been searching for more information, I can't find any.

The entire story is very vague, does anyone have more information on this incident? ( Remembering I live in Ontario, a province that would not hesitate to ban a breed of dog on hear-say ).

I didn't even look at the date on the story! I hear this on the news last night and this was the only thing I could find! So maybe its 2 different stories....I am confused now....I really hate the thought of there being 1 boxer attack story, much less 2! Maybe the news made an error and reran the story. I'll keep an eye on the news and see if I hear anything more.

Definitely sounds like a case of bad owner, because there are rarely any truly bad dogs. I've also seen people cross breeding boxers with Pit bulls. I am not one of those people who believe that Pit Bulls are just evil dogs and it's in their nature to just "Be Vicious", They are taught that. I would have to think even a Boxer could probably be taught that also. The real crime in this case is probably the wrong party will get the punishment. The elderly woman has been injured, and is now probably terrified of any larger dog, the Poor Boxers are probably no longer with us, and their owner probably has some new pups. Hopefully like someone else mentioned it is a case of mistaken Breed Identity. I have a neighbor who thought my kids were PitBulls, and after asking a few others I found people not familiar with either breed of dog saying they would likely make the same mistake. There was actually a case of mistaken Identity in Lafayette, LA about 3 years ago where a Boxer was being blamed for a mistreated Pit Bull actions. Although this is probably not the case here as one would think that wherever the dogs were being quaretined, somebody would know the difference.

I don't have much sympathy for the boxer owners. If they are indeed boxers, he has just done a huge disservice to the boxer breed. What were the dogs doing "at large" to begin with, especially if they're aggressive?

I know that on occasion an aggressive boxer surfaces that isn't the product of a neglectful or abusive home, but it's pretty hard to not know your dogs are aggressive and it is the owners responsibility to keep them contained so they cannot do harm to anyone.

What a tragedy for boxers if this story reaches far and wide. :(

I share the opinion that it's not the dogs fault... It's the owner who was not responsible enough to prevent this from happening.
