Jasmine and Austin are having a ball playing together BUT....they play constantly...very hard....very loud. They nip at each other constantly and are in each others mouth all the time. So what do I need to do to calm them down. Or will they just play out after getting use to each other? ( Jasmine has been here less than a week.) Austin seems fine with her. He cant wait for me to let her out of her kennel so they can start at it. I just dont want to set up any bad habits. So I want to hear from all of you 2 boxer parents out there for advice as to what I need to do to establish house rules.

Boxer Insane
We recently added another boxer to our household. He's been with us for about 3 weeks now and he and Brighid have their play time but they also have their quiet time. However, Brighid is going to be 5 next month and Bud (new dog) is about 1 or 2 so that may be why they don't play constantly.
They can get very "mouthy" and sometimes it sounds like they're killing each other but it's just play. I don't know about the other 2 boxer families out there but we just let the kids play until they wear themselves out

We have two Boxers and a Dalmatian! 
Now you talk about romping and playing....its almost non-stop at our house, but luckily they get worn out "occassionally"
At this moment it is quiet.
Skylar (Dalmatian) is laying under the computer desk.
Dixie (fawn boxer) is laying under the kitchen table.
Brittany (brindle boxer) is laying next to my chair.
I am enjoying the moment!!:D

So letting them just play it out is not encouraging bad behavior? Last night I tried to get them to play tug with a toy, that lasted as long as I was holding the toy with rope legs. I am sure what I am seeing is just natural dog play, but it sure does go on for a long time and it is very rough. They havent messed anything in house up, other than bumping the chairs at the table around a bit. And they do occassionaly rest...but then right back at it...I caught Austin shaking Jasmine by the jowles last night...he stoped as soon as I yelled Cool it...and released her...then she went to his jowles....she doesnt seem to mind one bit.

Completely Boxer Crazy
We rescued Ginger when Hammer was 5.5 months old in October, and I can tell you that is all they do! It sounds like I have wild animals in my house. I was on the phone with someone last night, and they're like "Umm, don't you need to go break up the dogfight"? I laughed and said, no they're just playing... There was a time when Hammer would chew so much on the back of Gingers legs that she'd have little raw spots. That part has ended and I have to say that they don't get that rowdy for quite as long these days, but they still do it a few times per day. They're actually sharing a crate now and do quite well with it! At about 8 o'clock we try to get them to settle down and it usually works these days, they make a big dog pile on mom and sleep like the dead!

i know what you mean, subi and bailey can get so rough sometimes, what i usually do when i have had enough is yell "enough" and they know to settle down for a bit, if i feel it is getting to rough i yell "easy" and that works as well. just keep an eye on them and if it gets crzy tell them to settle down. they will learn your commands very quickly

Welcome to boxer play! What you have going on is very normal plain old boxer play. Rocks always goes for jowls and neck scruff. He will get the neck and just start shaking/dragging the other doggie :rolleyes: It is going to take a little bit longer but once Jazz and Austin realize that Jazz isn't going anywhere it should calm down.Now the times they shouldn't be playing that way is right before and right after a meal and at night when it is time to get settled. You have every right to step in and give them a command to let them know now is not the time and what command you use is up to you. Enjoy your babies

Cheyenne tends to grab for the hind legs, while Winston goes for her front. Which means that she causes him to run away and he causes her to jump (usually over him) - great fun! They can do this for HOURS - he goes for the front, she jumps over him and goes for the back, he runs and turns and goes for the front, etc., etc.
Watch it on hardwood or vinyl floors - mine have gotten so excited about running and playing with each other that they have slid into walls and the kitchen table (knocking over a chair).
If it gets too much to handle, I just yell "enough" or "easy". Usually they'll stop . . . if not, I ask them if they want to go to timeout (5 minutes in the bathroom). That'll stop them dead in their tracks long enough for me to distract them or stop them from doing something they aren't supposed to.
And they are in each others' mouth all the time! My friends think it's the craziest thing they've ever seen! Cheyenne likes to lick inside Winston's mouth, while he favors her ears!

we have two boxers of 10 months old they are brother and sister, they play rough grabbing each others legs and shaking them, and then biting each other, it amazes me that they dont hurt each other, they are also very vocal while they play, growling,snarling and barking, one of them will hide round the door waiting for the other to walk in before pouncing on them, it seems to go on for hours at times but when it seems they are getting to rough i just yell 'enough' at them and they both stop and look at me as if to say 'sorry mum' and then calm down for 5 mins before staring again, i leave them to it until they have had enough and both fall asleep.
it seems to be a great boxer game ... justa shame they decide to play it when i want to watch tv or the phone rings .....

When we have two dogs at home, and I'm thinking it's time for a break, I call a 'time out' and sit with them on the floor ensuring that no play is started up again. I'll sit with them for about 10 minutes, or less if one of them goes and lies down for a rest. If they are both eager to get going again after 10 minutes, I'll give a release command and let them play again. Up to you I suppose on how much play you feel is safe for them. Just remember for young puppies, they won't stop themselves when they are tired, so limit them to reasonable lengths of play and rest.
