Well, I've read many threads about people making negative comments about our babies but had never experienced it myself, until yesterday. I took Dude and Cooper to the dogpark and needless to say once we are out of the car they had forgotten all their manners and we're just pulling and running to get inside. There was a older man leaving and he says to me "You're not taking 'THOSE' dogs in there are you! I told him Yes I am (DUH). He says I would be in trouble with the owner, and I say"Why, aren't BOXERS allowed at this dog park?". He continues to mumble and keep walking away with his basset hound. I was infuriated. I think he thought they were pits, but even if he did, it was none of his business. My girlfriend, whom I was meeting there with her boxer, said I should have said, "AWWW you're leaving, and my boys favorite snack is Basset Hound"!! Too bad there isn't a law about IDIOTS going to the dogparks.

It's so hard to encounter people like that. Whenever possible just try and use it as an opportunity to educate people, and be an ambassador to the breed. Some people won't ever learn, but sometimes you will encounter people who will stop and listen and walk away with a new attitude, so it's worth a try. Sounds like this guy was hopeless, though. I'd have loved to hear this guy's reaction had you said the comment about basset hounds being his favorite snack :evilicon:

I have had people cross the road in fear, for some reason the people around my town mostly think Ty is a pitbull. I always set them straight, and the people who know he's a boxer love him, he wiggles for everyone that talks to him.

Boxer Insane
He's probably just not use to a dog with that much energy, I doubt his basset jumps around at all, much less like a boxer. If the guy was that rude it's a good thing he left then before you guys went into the park. He was probably either unaware of the breed of dog or not impressed with a boxer's hyperactiveness. Just let it slide this is one of the nicer "rude" comments if that makes any sense. There's been plenty worse said, but don't worry. I'd kill him with kindness and take a ponytail holder of your gf's with you next time then if you see him tell him to tie his dogs ears up b/c you don't want the poor thing to trip over it's ears and then you can walk away smiling :D

  Thanks for the image and the laughs this morning!!

Maybe this guy will be back to see how fun the boxers can be. Boxers do always seem to be the ones trying to engage the other dogs in play, which I think is GREAT if you're around friendly dogs. It can really get a good romp going.
