17 months...getting aggressive with other dog

Hey everyone.

it has been a very long time since I posted on here due to a "few" life changes, but anyways, recently our boxer has been getting extremely aggressive with our other golden retriever during feeding, etc. Our retriever sucks down his feed really quick, while our little (well not so much little anymore) Slyvester sometimes takes his time. After our golden finishes, sometimes he sees Sly leave for a second and he tries to go get some of Sly's food. Well, Sly will not have that and immediately goes into complete attack mode. I can no longer give the dogs any kind of bone and or treat that they cant finish in a few minutes, because Sly will go after our golden if he gets near his treat. Sly is an EXTREMELY sociable dog. We take him to a doggie daycare place near our house where he plays all day and he is fantastic with other dogs. But recently his agression toward our other dog during feeding, etc. has gotten intense. We are now going to feed them separately again, golden outside, and Sly inside but I am worried that he is getting more aggressive. For as playful as Sly is, he is constantly showing dominance over our other dog. Can anyone provide me with maybe any other suggestions?

hi,

i dont know your entire situation but if not neutered i would start with that. He is getting in that adolescent age. I haven't had the problem but i have heard people will try sitting with a bowl of food, and hand feed each dog as they sit in front of you, the second you see any form of aggression, you correct and continue. eventually he will learn that showing food aggression equals he doesn't get any.

again, i haven't done this personally but i have heard that as a recommendation

Seems like it could be the age... My Tyson is 17 months also, neutered and he is started to act different with different dogs in different situations.
I have been searching through this forums and this age comes up a lot with "aggression" like issues that have "just" started!

Sounds like some bad resource guarding. I have a resource guarder (the little 10lb dog, go figure) but she just growls and "acts" tough.

Honestly the only solution I know of is to keep them separated when food is involved. Fed separately. Chews and bones given in separate rooms or in crates or tie them up so they can't get to each other. It's really all about management.
