11 month old just started lifting his leg...

My 11 month old male has always just gone outside and peed with all four legs on the ground. Just the other day he suddenly walks up to a tree, lifts his leg and gives it a sprinkle!! He did this out of nowhere, he had never even tried to do it before. Its kinda funny to watch because now he does it to every tree and sign he sees. Alot of the times he totally misses or almost falls over doing it. HAHA. Just thought I would share a pee story. :D

Sounds just like our Keno !! He's almost 7 mos and just started hiking his leg..he doesn't do it everytime, but when he does it's funny cause he almost loses his balance and falls over (just like you said your boy does..LOL)...
He's due for his neutering in Jan...hopefully he won't start hiking his leg in the house to mark his "territory" like males are known to do ! :rolleyes:

That is so funny, my Oscar didn't lift his leg until almost 2!!! He still doesn't, if there are no trees or bushes. We have trees and bushes in our backyard, but he's too lazy to walk over there so he pees like his sister in the middle of the yard instead.

I don't know that they "need" to see another dog lift their leg, but I can say that - having seen other dogs do that - my Henri was lifting his leg as a 4 month old puppy! Personally, I'd have preferred him to be like Oscar and wait as long as possible...

I have to proudly say that both of my males still pee like girls and they're both almost 3 years old. :D Well, they do more of a horse pee than squat like a girl, but all 4 feet remain on the ground.

Indy was about seven months old, when his breeder came to our area with her mother who was house hunting.

She stopped by to visit for a while, and when Indy went out, he lifted his leg. She was devastated. His brother Redford, whom she kept to show, hadn't started hiking his leg yet.

Chiming in again..as a child I had a German Shepard and he was so funny..when he started lifting his leg he would get messed up and cock the opposite leg while peeing on the tree..totally messing up the whole peeing on the tree thing!

Auggie is about 3.5 years old and he always squats. I have never seen him hike his leg! It's alright though, we still love him!
