Like I said its my opinion I stand by it, to give a dog that much credit that it smells pheromones of a person to know whether they're comfortable around them is giving them too much credit unless they've specfically had training in that deptartment like a search and rescue dog but again I could be completely wrong. My true belief is that a dog doesn't know whether a human either sex, its not like they are sniffing our privates and butts, I've seen many of dogs afraid of different sexs but most times its the energy the different sexes give off not what literally between their legs, again I welcome all critics I never said I'm right it is just my opinion this is a great debate to have and may help Jatie in the end
I understand it is your opinion. I, however, am more than willing to give them credit for being able to smell things we can't. Sometimes those things will tell them something. There are documented cases of dog being able to predict seizures in humans. How do you suppose they do that? Same thing with being able to smell certain cancers. Now they may not know what a seizure is or cancer, but they seem to know something is wrong. I think in a case of a rescue being afraid of men, they learn to associate a certain smell (male pheromones) with bad experiences. In a way, that would be training. Dogs do pick up things on their own, their experiences teach them things.

I've seen a lot of dogs do this! They must have a reason for doing it, but who knows what they are trying to find out.
