I am so depressed I can barely stand it!!! My 9 month old boxer just died Saturday!! He was not a sick dog so I just can't find an explanation as to why he died so suddenly!!

It happened while I was dogsitting this weekend. Domino had never really played with other dogs so at first I was hesitant but then I took of their leashes and let them run. They were having sooo much fun together!! They chased each other around the yard, then they would lay down and rest, then start wrestling each other, etc. After a long romp in the yard, I put them both in their crates to get water and rest. About 30 minutes later, I was about to leave the house so I wanted to take them out one more time to go potty, etc. Domino chased the other dog about 2 times and then he sat down - I thought he got awfully tired fast this second time around but next thing I know, he lays down on his side and I went to him and he was peeing on himself!! I picked him up off the floor but he was already limp!! I carried him inside to get my purse and take him to the vet but he seemed to have been gone already. I gave him mouth to mouth and massaged his chest - I just didnt know what else to do!!! We rushed him to the vet but I knew the whole ride there, that he was already gone...they confirmed it when we got there after they tried to revive him but he had been dead too long.

They offered to do an autopsy but I felt that was not necessary - I wanted to just rest in peace. It has been extremely hard since I have twin 5 year olds that are asking a million questions and cry themselves to sleep at night!!!

Could this have been caused by cardiomyopathy or because he was a white boxer???? Also, what is most people's experience - should I go out and get a new one to help us move on?? Not to replace him of course - so I would get a completely different one...

Thanks for any comments...

I am so sorry for your loss. Yesterday at the dog park another couple was there with their 6 month old boxer puppy and was talking about their previous boxer. When I asked them how long they had their other dog, they said only two years. They said he had a heart murmur which they found out after they got him and the vet had told them that he would probably only live up to two years and that he would probably just pass out and die after running around and that is what happened to him, he was running at the dog park this past December and died there. Once again I am so sorry.

I'm so sorry you lost your baby! I lost a dog suddenly like that, to bloat. She had been running and playing all day--had drunk a lot of water, etc. She wasn't a boxer, but it was such a shock to lose her!

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm really sorry to read about your sad loss. What a horrible thing to happen. Maybe there was some unknown birth defect that made itself known at that time for some reason. I'm so sorry though, I can't imagine how hard this must be for you and your family.

I have no answers to your questions either but just wanted to say how sorry I am. We want to do everything right for our babies but sometimes there is nothing we can do. Like Susan said earlier, he is called. You and your babies (skin and fur) will be in my prayers so that you will get thru these hard times.
