Tuesday morning Truman (3yr old brindle)woke me up at 5:15 am very excited, I politly asked him to go back to bed, but of course he wasnt having it, so out side we went! As i cleared my eyes I noticed he was not doing his duty but running in circles and whimpering! I went out and got him off his lead, He was COVERED in dime size bumbs, Iguessing 1000 of them! I couldnt believe it, What is it, what do I do. Well I was sure he had gotten it somthing and he was having a reaction. My biggest fear was his throat was gonna close! We have no Emergency room for vets in my area and my local vet lives 30 minutes from his office. I Have a friend that is a vet tech and i made the call. She told me to give 1mg of Benadrl for every pound. Well all we had in the house was liquid for a child! Two table spoons is equal to 12.5 mg so needles to say that was an event pouring all this liquid down his throat! That seemed to calm the itching for about an hour an of course i then took him to the vet! Bottom line they cant tell me what it is that he got into but it was not good! He will be taking 100 mg of ben a day for the next to weeks, they have him several shots of steroids as well as some other pills. Thank god hes ok. You should have seen these lumps it was crazy! So please keep some benadrl on hand it could save your babys life!!

this has happened to me before. My dogs got sick and the BT was covered in bumps from an allergic reaction we thought. We gave him benadryl (never saw anything but childrens) and he cleared up by next day. The boxers one got a bump and it went away by night the other girl threw up a few days into doggy flu (not technical term) and she got 1000 or bumps all over and itched like crazy. It was bad and I was so freaked out. We gave her the benadryl and by next day she was fine. Luckily no steriods were needed just some time. Vet said stress, allergies could have made this happen. Told us not to freak unless they don't go away after a few days. Give benadryl and call him if they don't go away or if they get worse and have other symptoms. Very unnerving to say the least

That happened to Samantha one time. I think she had been stung or bitten by something because her muzzle was swollen, too, but it was scary to see her broken out all over with all those bumps!! I keep benadryl on hand now!!

It happens to Ginger too. After she is outside with mosquitoes. It is not bites but seems to some sort of allergy. 50mg of benadryl clears her up. Weird

sorry - long response

This has happened to Buster!! EXACT same thing! He was running around all night long, so much that we had to go to another bedroom b/c hubby was getting ill :{. I mean, it was like a ghost or mean spirit was chasing my baby. He was whining all night and jerking and checking behind him, etc. Benedryl did not work this time - usually does if it's not too big of a reaction. (I tend to call it 'the polka dots')

Next morning I called in to work and took him to the vet. I'm used to this type thing and they are too, but he has never done the 'demon chase' thing before. Scared me to death. I cried all night long and cried all the way to the vet's office. They gave him a steriod shot (I call it the pee-pee shot b/c he urinates uncontrollably for about 12 hours after one). He was fine after about 6 hours or so. I mean, completely over the episode.

Hope your baby feels better soon - seems like boxers are just prone to allergic reactions!

I've had this happen with several of my dogs. Be careful with the cortisone shots - they really make them pee a lot and you may have overnight accidents for a few days.

Hope your baby feels better!

This happened a couple times with my female 2yrs old. We used benedryl pills they are 25mg each and she was on them for a week before the hives went away. They would help then as soon as it wore off she was back to itching and spots. We never did figure out what caused it. Her face even swelled. They only thing we could come up with was she may have gotten poked with a thorn on the cactus that she loves to run around. That was twice the second time not as bad. the last time we know what happened. She had a reaction to a shot the vet gave her to settle her stomach. she was having a stretch of the runs and throwing up and a fever so after he did some tests gave us some meds for her stomach and a shot to initially calm her system down. by the time we got home (5mins from the house) she was freaking out rubbing all over the ground and swelling by the second. I quick got a dose of benedryl in her but it didn't seem to help she then got ver weak and wouldn't even get up. I had to lift her into the truck and race her to the ER vet. They gave her an IV and I had to wait there 1hour after it to make sure she was okay. I never saw her so Sad and Pathetic. She wouldn't even kiss us. Was like she had not energy. But all was well by the time we left she was at least back to 90% herself and 100% the next day. Thank God Sorry so long
