Our "Emma" is looking great (shiny coat, lots of get up and go and tail wiggling) BUT her stool has become progressively looser by the month for the past few months. Approx 3-4 weeks back and on advice of a breeder we switched her from her high quality kibble to a bowl of cooked oatmeal, plain yogurt and raw hamburger. This helped bring her stool from a worst case of brown water to a thick oatmeal-like consistency. We then gathered up a sample and took it to the vet who returned with a report of "nothing detected wrong" and offered the option of exploratory surgery.

So, can anyone offer any suggestions? "Irritated bowel syndrome".....any other possibilities and treatments (holistic or otherwise)?????

Thank you.

I hope you get this in time.

I had a Boston who was ten with the same problem. Since you have a negative stool sample. I highly suggest you take her in for an ultrasound. It could be as little as pancreaitis or something worse.

My Boston had a small tumour on the muscle that controls the spincter between his small intestine and large intestine. He died losing half his body weight. I put him down as I could not afford the cancer treatment.

Please take her for specifically an ultrasound. A colonoscopy detected nothing.

Sequence of events

Bandit had diarhea
One week passed and I took him to the vet who prescribed Imodium AD and IBD drugs.
His poop became the consistency of mud.
Two weeks later
Diarhea continued and we did a colonoscopy-detected nothing
Continued on the Imodium and IBD
Two weeks later, ultrasound. Found three tumours in his insides.
Cancer treatment was upwards of 5000
A month later I had to put him down because he was miserable.

God Bless and hurry!

Because her stool's been sampled and in case an ultrasound or other tests show no ill-will, it's entirely possible it can be a food intolerance, even if Emma's been eating the same food for years. For example, my mother grow up and adores shellfish but is terribly allergic to shortly before 60 years of age(vomiting, diarrhea, depressed appetite).

I hope Emma gets better soon!
