hi everyone.

Tess is now 10 weeks old and she has become a fussy eater. When she first came to our house the breeder had her on Eukanuba, soaked in a little water.

She started to turn her nose up at it after a few days, so we tried her on a bag of Purina One(chicken and rice).

She ate this fine for about a week, but won't touch it now unless we half quantity and use half again with a Pedigree Puppy pouch. Or she absolutely batters it if i put some tinned sardines with oil in it.

Can anyone suggest a good kibble here in the UK. We have seen some called John wellbeloved, royal canin, and something called science diet....i think!

any suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S i dont mind mixing the sardines and salmon in that she has been eating, but boy she stinks when she licks our faces! lol

Try searching the boards for good UK kibble suggestions - a premium human-grade kibble is best after a holistic diet!

Good luck and welcome to BW! Look forward to seeing pics!

Hi shafto -

James Wellbeloved is a great premium food available in the UK. I believe Fromm's is too, however beyond that I am not very familiar with dry dog foods in the UK :)

On a side note, please post your Introduction. This is something required of all new members, and is stated in the Rules (in addition to the email you received upon registration)

Thanks :)

Will do that.

Thanks for the reply. will post more pics as i get them resized.

she is doing ok on the Purina at moment, but its only a small puppy size bite. So as she gets older she will need to change.

i'm not too familiar with what is available to you in the UK. however, we do have a particular moderator who is from your neck of the woods and is quite familiar with the various kibble options you might have available to you across the pond. :)
i'm sure she'll be reading this post shortly and will provide you with plenty of great advice and information. her moderator name is gmacleod. :)

Both Eukanuba and Purina are fairly low-end foods. They're mostly cheap grains and fillers, rather than meat. And dogs are designed to eat a diet of meat, not corn ;) Science Diet is no better - and frequently contains carcinogenic preservatives, so it's something better avoided.

Here's a very recent thread on this exact same topic :) and there are some good links within it to some slightly older threads, also on UK foods. http://boxerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80135

The best food available in the UK (that I've come across) is the Fromms Four Star range (only the four star range - the others made by that manufacturer are mid-grade kibbles, which is better than Purina, Pedigree or Eukanuba, but still not that great). Jameswellbeloved is a decent kibble, as is Burns. You'd get those two at most petstores (avoid anything from the supermarket - they only stock low-end foods).

At some stage I'll probably do a bit more research on UK dry foods. Have to say though - this is a great country for feeding a natural raw diet, if you're at all inclined that way. Given the predominance of butchers, it's very easy to find good cheap sources of fresh meat and bones ;)
