    traveling with the baby

Any advice to give for driving across country with our boxer? She loves to ride in the car, but she's never been on a long trip before. A friend suggested getting sedatives from the vet? Is this a good idea? Are they safe?

moving; how to find a new vet

I am moving out of state, and I am concerned with how I go about finding a vet. Our current vets are wonderful (and all three partners have boxers themselves). They understand all the illnesses and allergies that boxers are prone to. Any advice?

    moving to Las Vegas

My husband and I are being relocated to Las Vegas at the end of the month. We're looking for other boxers in the area for our girl to meet. Anyone in the area looking for puppy playmate?

Do you have a raised food dish?

bloat I don't know how true this is, but I was told that the raised food dish also helps prevent bloat which is common in deep chested dogs; even if that isn't true, it sure looks like it is more comfortable for Libby not having to bend forward so far to eat.

    scared about tumor

I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge of tumors in dogs. We found one last week in Libby, and we had it removed. We had it sent off to the lab to verify if it was benign or malignant. My vet, who also has boxers, told me that boxers are "tumor factories". Have the rest of you heard...

    top ten

On AOL's homepage this morning, there was a link to look at the top ten breeds - boxers were #9. There is a place where you can vote for your favorite breed, so everyone go vote!!! Anyway, I thought everyone would be glad that this wonderful breed is getting positive feedback. :D

    Cropped or natural

floppies I call Libby's ears her big floppies - I'm glad we didn't crop them; she has a much freindlier appearance with natural ears, and I love to rub her ears - they're so soft!!!

do your boxers bark (in home) with strangers approaching?

very protective I was surprised to hear that your boxer isn't very protective of your home and family - mine is overly protective of me (even when it comes to my husband). The other night I had the sprinkler on in the yard, and I had to move it because she kept hearing the water hit the bushes...

    Weight

wow I also think that is big for only 11 months. Libby is almost two and has just recently slowed in her growth. She is not quite 60 lbs., but she favors her mother who was small. Has your vet said anything about the size - is the dog overweight, what are you feeding, etc. I am lucky enough...

Not new, but it's been a long, long time.

Me too Charish, I did the same thing just a few days ago - had to re-introduce myself to everybody. I have a fawn female whose birthday is Sept. 13 - she'll be two as well. I'm still getting used to the new board, but I like it so far. Take care and welcome back.

    Louisiana

Hey everybody! I haven't been around for a while, but my boxer girl and I are doing fine. I am interested to see if there is anyone on the board from Louisiana yet. I was very excited to see "Cajun" in hopes that Libby would have a boxer playmate around here, but I see in his message...

    What exactly is Flashy?

Flashy refers to the amount of white markings on a boxer. The more white on the dog, the more "flashy" he is. Some bxrs have no white, a speck of white, etc. others have white on their toes, feet, chests, masks, etc.

    So many questions-new baby girl

Don't bring your pup home any earlier than -8 weeks; they need that time to feed with mom and to socialize with siblings. I also recommend crate training when you get your pup home - everything needs to be purchased and ready to go when the pup comes home - they need their own special place -...

    publicity for boxers

For those of you who don't know me, My name is Andrea and I live in Baton Rouge. My boxer girl Libby is almost a year old. She is a spayed fawn female with black mask, white chest, and white "toes". On a recent trip down to New Orleans, I went to Margaritaville (restaurant and store owned by...

    "That weird twisty dance"

Our Libby is a disco queen - she loves to do the kidney bean boogie!! I actually had someone ask me if there was something wrong with her when they saw it for the first time!! Shame on them - can't they appreciate this talent? I love it myself, it is Libby's way of saying she's glad to see me!!
