    Fearful Boxer

Jessie is now 3 1/2 years old and she has become afraid of everything. She started to develop this behavior about almost a year ago and we thought she would soon grow out of it but she hasn't. We live in NYC which is where she is raised. There's lot of noise, people, dogs etc... and she...

    Crate Training ?

We kept our boxer crated until she was about 1 1/2 years. We felt that it was much safer for her when we were at work. This way she wouldn't chew on wires or outlets. Her crate was in our bedroom so she slept in it as well. She loved it and was so use to the routine. When she came in from...

    Crying in crate...

it will definitely get better. I know this may sound as a stretch but...I use to go into Jessie's crate as a little game. I wanted her to know that it's not a bad place so I would go in with her toys and she would follow me. her crate was pretty big for a boxer. it actually fits dogs upto 150+...

    Crying in crate...

I crate trained Jessie for 1 1/2 and she was great. Even though her crate was in our bedroom, it was very tough at night. She would cry and bark when it was bedtime. Then we realized that she did that because she couldn't see us. So what we did was sleep at the foot of the bed for a couple of...

    Hurt Leg - Help!

Hi Jessie's hurt her leg a couple of times and it has always heeled on it's own but it could take a couple of days. the first time she did, it took 2 days and the second time took 4 days. we had called the vet and they just said if it doesn't get better within a week then we should bring her...

My puppy is in the hospital...(long)

Hi I'm so sorry about Lokie. I feel that everyone should feel comfortable with their vet. We switched vets a couple of time and now we have one that we trust 100%. I think that they should let you go to the back to see your baby, I don't think I would be able to handle someone telling me...

how do we get her to come when called

I bought a 30ft leash at the pet store. All pet stores should have them. How old is your boxer?

how do we get her to come when called

she did really well last night too. I think letting her play with the tennis ball in the house helps since it's her obsession and she only plays with it in the park. that's a good idea, I'll try a different command too. we've been using a bell to use as a "come for a treat" command. I know...

how do we get her to come when called

I absolutely agree. We thought we would train in a distraction free area for a while then move on to a little more distraction. The problem is not other dogs, it's being in the dog park where she can run freely. I see all the other dogs that obey and need their owners but yet she doesn't seem...

    biting

I had the same problems when Jessie was a puppy, she would constantly hang on our clothes with her teeth, nip at our hands, feet and especially shoe laces. we did everything, yelping, time out, freezing her toys. What it came down to was that she was teething and we just kept stuffing her toys...

how do we get her to come when called

we were practicing in our hallway last night with a bell and lots of different treats. we gave her a tennis ball (which she LOVES and never lets go of it in the dog run) but she did last night and we kept giving it back to her. we're going to keep up with the training. I'm sure she will listen...

how do we get her to come when called

Thanks for the suggestion. We thought about keeping her on a longer lead but we're afraid that the other dogs may chase after it but I think we should at least give it a try. She definitely knows the recall but she just doesn't want to leave the park. she has too much fun there.

Please some insight! How serious can an allergy get?

Hi My Jessie used to have a lot of skin issues and she used to have bumps all over her back and her head. We kept switching her food from Iams to Eukanuba then we started to feed her Nutro and she never got the bumps ever again and her coat never looked so shiny. Our boxer has a very...

    Pet insurance

We have VPI pet insurance and our boxer is 2 years old. I have to say that it has paid off so far since Jessie practically lived at the vet when she was a puppy. Even now, she'll have occasional eye infections and skin allergies so the insurance definitely helps. They pay for part of the office...
