Supplement to Wellness Core for Boney Boxer?

It wouldn't hurt to try Orijen for Tucker. I've fed it for several years and ours do very well on it. Orijen will be about 40% protein compared to Core's 34% and 16% fat to 14%. Another consideration is the calories per cup. Orijen comes in at 450 cals/cup compared to Core's 430 cals/cup...

    life stages pet food

Excellent choices. We've raised several of ours on Innova and raw (Nature's Variety patties). As adults, they eat a couple of varieties of EVO. Orijen is another food we've tried that really good... just pricey.

    No weight gain

Good suggestion... I'd forgotten about the pumpkin. There's a lot of fiber in pumpkin. Just start kinda slow with it so you don't clog him up ;)

    No weight gain

OK... how about cooking up some chicken and rice for him to see if you can tempt him into eating and maybe firm up his stools? About 1/2 and 1/2 between the chicken and rice. If he'll eat that for a couple of days it may help settle him down? It's easy to digest and often help with diarrhea.

    No weight gain

Well, if it was me, I'd be back at the vet for a more thorough checkup. I'd ask for a complete physical including blood work, a check for worms, and anything else that might give a clue about why he isn't gaining any weight. Canidae is a pretty good food. 4.5 cups a day ought to be showing up...

How much do I feed Cain

I agree. Higher quality foods are somewhat pricier initially, but they make up for it in a healthier dog (reduced vet bills long term) and in the fact that you can feed less of the food for the same nutritional value. You might also check the RAW subforum. I don't feed raw so I can't say for...

    Alternating Kibble and Raw

Just to support gmacleod's answer... I feed Nature's Variety frozen raw in the morning with a small patty at lunch and then feed Innova kibble in the evening. Been doing this for all 3 dogs for a while now with no problems at all.

    So confused about food

Samsonian... I'm kinda late comin' to this thread, but I would second DCing all the supplements while you're changing foods, esp the fish oil. I have 3 and all of them get sick on fish oil. Diarrhea and vomiting are the usual results of my adding this to their food. It takes them a while to...

    Dry Food Recommendation?

You might try a pre-made raw like Nature's Variety frozen raw. That's a 95% meat-based food with a good balance of vitamins and minerals. Ours poop better on that than anything they've ever eaten (don't know whether you consider pretty poop to be a "recommendation" or not...). Solid Gold also...

My dog has really bad gas!!

Hi... I didn't see anyone answer your last question, so... We fed both of our pups an "All Life Stages" food, not a puppy food. We feed Innova and for Molly, we gave her regular green Innova until she was 14 or 15 months. Then we switched to EVO for her kibble. Ours also eat dehydrated raw...

Hello all, First time boxer owner.

Hi... Welcome to the forums. A 10 1/2 week old puppy is a baby and will do baby things. A 20 month old human is also a baby and not able to deal with a playful puppy... that's the adult human's task at this point in their lives. Puppies need to learn not to nip humans even in play. This...

Giving up on the breed. Boxers need help

Hi porpulane... I'm not UmmasMom, but I can tell you something about breeding Dobermanns according to European standards. I don't know about European Boxers, but I would guess that they would be similar. Our Dobermann kennel is a DVG kennel (German Dobermann Club), so we have to follow...

Giving up on the breed. Boxers need help

Re: Weight gain TRUBBLE... Your vet should certainly check her thyroid and also check for any other condition that might cause her to gain this much weight. We've never experienced any uncontrolled weight gain when our girls were spayed, so it's not inevitable. If she does have skin...

Food Intolerance - Likely Culprits in EVO?

We've used Innova for several years (and still do) for our personal and kennel dogs and have no problems with the regular adult food. We can't feed any EVO kibble to our adults except our working bitch. The others are all moderately active for play and exercise, but not nearly as active as...

    What should I do?

That's a good idea. I was wondering whether mixing two types of feeding styles would be OK. My sister (the other owner of the kennel) used to feed raw anyway and only stopped because of prep time issues. Thanks again.
