Halloween Trial 2004

AWESOME picture! How long did it take to get him "into" agility. I would love to take classes for it, of course after we get through the beginner obediences and everything, and also, when he is actually big enough to jump a hurdle! haha great photo

We started with agility after puppy class and beginning obedience I think about 8 months. At that age their not much difference between obedience and agility. Their was no jumping weaving or anything that puts stress on undeveloped joints and bones. We work on drive and control (Ha Ha) all contacts where kept low until Jack around 14 months then we started low jumps and two or three weaves (Nothing repetitive).
Our first competition was a fun show just before he was 2 and he had the best time! He ran the first two obstacles and then started running around in a big circle as fast as he could taking any obstacles that happened to be in his path. He made sure to say hi to the pole setters, time keeper, judge whoever he could find. I look back now and laugh but was very embarrassed at the time.
We continued with this exercise in futility until he was about 26 or 27 months old and one day he decided that we where a team and we have been doing very well since.
If your serious about agility with a Boxer, be patience and keep it fun for the dog and you will be rewarded many times over.
