Boxer Pal
Hi, I own a 10 month old male boxer pup and I have been thinking of adopting an adult Rottweiler. The problem is that my 10 month old boy does not really like other male dogs. What can I do to socialize them? Will they get along with each other? Will it be too dangerous to leave them unsupervized?

That's a really hard question to answer. Is your Boxer neutered? Is the Rottie? Has either of them gone through any obediance training? You would be better off to introduce them on common ground (park maybe) as your boxer has no doubt claimed your house as his and the Rottie would be crossing his territory.

As someone that has had to part with a beloved pet because of vicious fighting, I would recommend taking your time in choosing a dog to be a companion to your boxer. It is his home too and to disrupte it without thought might only bring grief to you.

Sorry I don't have more info for you, but someone else may. I wish you luck.

Is your 10 month old boxer neutered - if not that could be your problem, but if he is and he still has problems with Male dogs then you would be safer to get a female.

Introduce the dogs on neutral territory, it might even be a good idea to let them meet a couple of times before taking the new dog home.

With regards to leaving them alone together unsupervised this is not advisable even if they appear to be getting along together. They should be crated or left in seperate rooms as you don't know when a fight could break out and could get ugly if you are not there to seperate them, I would wait several months before taking that step even if they appear to get along well - you just never know.

If you are getting the Rottie through a rescue they will help you with the introductions and help you find a dog that will get along with your boy.

Good luck
