Running tandum with a bike

I am soooo excited! I finally went out and got a bike! Yeah! But, I had to get a tricycle (chime in the wicked witch theme) because of my back. Even got a basket on the back! Will come in handy when fat-butt Lily gets too tired to walk anymore. LOL The butt should get much smaller now, including mine!

The first night, I took them one at a time. Holding the leash with my left hand while the right was firmly planted on the brake! They absolutely loved it! As soon as they got into a full gallop, they both looked at me, smiling ear to ear, tounge hangin' out and their eyes showing their excitement! Run free my lovelies! After 30 mins, they both went right to bed when they got home. It was a peace in that house that hasn't been heard from in over a year! I am so happy to finally get them out and run off some of that pent up energy.

Anyways......not gonna be so easy without some type of leash arm or something to hold them to the side. They haven't quite figured out how to stay in the right spot so the back tire doesn't attack them and they have a tendancy to want to cross over in the front tire.

Anyone use these types of "arms" that could suggest one for me? Of course, I will need two, one for each side, as I want to build up to taking both at the same time.

Also, how do you train them to run in a straight line? How do you train them NOT to run off to the side at 90 degrees after a squirrel? Do they just figure it out on their own after the first tire attack?

No advice, but good luck with training. I can picture myself getting flattened by a car because Johann say a leaf move across the road that he had to chase.

Are they both really good at heel? As in, no pulling, stopping, etc unless you let them? I'd work on making sure I had a 100% reliable heel and start using that command while biking. In theory, that would keep them on one side of the bike and keep them from trying to run off.

I think some of the arms have a quick release button as well. That might be good and save you from a big crash.

Glad they're loving the exercise. Maybe someday I'll get Johann to run along my bike.

No, they aren't good at all with heel. But, one scrape by the back tire and they both learned really quick! LOL They both have figured out where their safe "spot" is. I did a search and found a site that sells one. It's springeramerica.com I am getting one arm for each side. We will see just how well they transition.

As for the running off after a leaf......well, last night Lily was in a full run and something caught her eye........hehehe........my hand on the handlebars and holding the leash, she learned quick that she can try to go whereever she wants.......but I am going forward and dragging her along if I have to. She doesn't swagger one bit now! Remember, I am on a tricycle.......so I won't get pulled over too easily.

Scary thing is, the bike is one speed.......top speed is whatever Buster feels like pulling me at. LOL Lily keeps up, but Buster is just a dog with a hemi in him! Strong enough to pull me on the bike and still not be going as fast as he'd like. I may need pads and a helmet taking him out. LOL

You met my daughter and she really wants to video it and put it on youtube. Gosh, how embarrassing! But I may just let her........when we are both out, we are just cracking up at me. Always the butt of the joke, but I gots a big butt so I can take it! LOL

Just got my springer arms, and with a little revision, they are both on my trike. YEAH!!!! I can't wait til I get home and hook them up. They will be beside themselves with excitement that they can be together. They are gonna be little-dancy-pants til we get rollin'.

I can't express my excitement with this dang bike! Both dogs are now running beautifully. We are still working on the "hem and haw" but the "Mush & Whoa" are working great! They even know the route now and knew when to slow and where to turn.

Lily is now pulling the bike. Buster seems to be lagging a little now. We are up to two miles of full run! I gotta slow it down or Lily will run herself to death. As soon as I grab their harness's, they are both doing the "dancey pants" at the door. They never have been so excited! As soon as they are hooked up......off they go! Full speed ahead! Aooooogggaaaa!

Sunday it was a beautiful day. Off we went for our ride. Needless to say, it's tourist season. As I am being pulled by the dogs up the sidewalk, people are stopping, yelling support and even taking pictures!!! I think they must think I'm an Amisher or something out on my old fangled dog-drawn buggy! It's histerical! I just giggle myself around. LOL

I have found that replacing the front brake every 3 weeks can be a bit of a problem. Yeah, guess they don't stop 130 pounds of pulling dog without wearing down. So......a little research shows that I can put a back-pedal brake on and it will also add 2 more gears!!! Whoo Hoo!!! Now I can pedal faster than they can run - hopefully! I need a good headlight and a speedometer yet. I also joke about putting on an awning for those hot, summer days. LMAO What a hoot that would be.

I would love to see you on your bike! Where's the video! Can't wait for Sky to get older so I can try it out, too! Although my chubby Puggle on one side and a Boxer on the other, not sure how that would work ;-)
