nutro natural choice bad decision...

so when i got my pup (3 months) he was on Nutro Max puppy and came with a small bag of that. I went to get some food for him the other day and asked the gal at the pet store what she thought I should get. Took me to Nutro Natural choice puppy for large breed and said 'try this'. I assumed that she was not leading me astray (or at least intentionally) and i got a 30 pd bag of it. After opening it I then decide to do some reading here and I find that the large breed is a terrible idea and that nutro is eh with a lot of fillers?!?! so...now i have this 30 pd bag of $50 dog food. what should I do? Fed it to him then switch to something better, and what would you all recommend? Or just trash it and get something else asap. I'm completely overwhelmed by all the choices. I'm indecisive by nature. ha.

What did you feed your dog as a puppy?
What do you feed your dog as an adult?

Thank you alls!

I found this website invaluable in trying to decide on a food for my dogs. I would see what is available in your local stores and run comparisons using the info on this website to choose the best quality within your budget ( They are candid, trustworthy reviews ). Every dog will be different on what suits them best, so it can be a bit of trail and error to find the best food for your individual pup. I think I read on here that one of the big box pet chains have a return policy on opened bags of food if your dog doesn't like it / tolerate it ... hopefully someone from the USA will chime in and confirm which store it is.

If you decide to switch foods before using the bag you just purchased, see about donating it to a local shelter. They may take opened bags and it would towards a good cause. I believe a local one in my area does, so it'd be worth checking out.

As far as switching brands and finding the right one, we've been dealing with the same thing. Rocky had been on Blue Buffalo grain free but we decided we were going to switch him. Our vet recommended Hills which turned out to a bad choice. With a newly opened 30lb bag, we switched again. He's currently eating Victor and seems to be doing well on it. There are so many choices and not every dog will like a particular kind. It seems like finding a needle in a haystack determining which brand to go with.

You can often return food to the store that you bought it, if your dogs don't like it or have issues with it. Then you can get buy something else. Alternatively, donate to your local shelter. They will appreciate it.

You can check out foods at Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble

Good luck!

If you bought it at Petco you're in luck--they have a great return policy. Even if it is opened, as long as the bag is more than half full they will take it back and give you a full refund. If people are auditioning different foods, I'll recommend Petco just for this reason. Then when you've found something that works you can buy it from where ever you like.
