How to respond to client's inquiry for wedding photography

She wrote back!!

So the bride-to-be FINALLY responded to my e-mail. She was very appreciative of me being honest about my comfort level and experience shooting weddings. As it turns out it is going to be a small, very casual ceremony, they want to capture lots of candid shots and not so much the traditional posed ones, and they are looking to keep the cost down. Basically, it's right up my alley :D We still have to discuss details and figure out a price that works for both of us, but I think I may have landed the job!! SO excited!!!

Spoke too soon....

It's a bust :( I guess my price quote was more than she wanted to spend... even though it was only a small fraction of what more experienced wedding photographers are charging. But considering that the wedding location would have me driving for 4.5 hrs round-trip, I just couldn't go any lower on the initial quote. I honestly might have gone lower if she'd asked, BUT she didn't... she just said that they are planning a 3 week trip to New Zealand immediately following the wedding so have decided to put pretty much everything towards their trip, and just have family and friends give them all the snapshots they take at the wedding.

Oh well (again) :o Maybe next time....

Oh no!! :( I'm sorry.

But - if her story is true - that would make sense. a 3 week honeymoon is probably VERY $$. So you didn't do anything wrong - they just decided to make their wedding inexpensive so they could enjoy a long honeymoon.

Yep, definitely makes sense... I mean, if I had to choose between a big wedding and a 3 week long honeymoon, I'd probably go with the honeymoon too :) so I don't blame her for that. I wish it could have worked out though! The location for the wedding is absolutely gorgeous, it would have made for some awesome photos.

Maybe next time :)
