Help with Puppy food-

Been a long time since I have been on here, but I am hoping for some help.

Nike is a sealed flashy female 18 weeks old. Lives with a 3 year old male, Dexter. Having trouble with throwing up and diarrhea. First we were feeding TOTW ( we had the breeder start her on it before we picked her up, she was 10 weeks old when we got her started TOTW at 7 weeks) She did ok when we got her home a little tummy trouble now and then. ( To finish the back story- We got Nike because Katie got bone cancer in her front right shoulder and it was getting worse by the day. We ended up having to put Katie down about 2 weeks ago. The pain was getting bad and pills were no longer helping, she was 10, almost 11. ) Tummy trouble really started around then. We are now trying Nature's Valley Instinct to no avail. We are putting her back on a cooked rice and beef diet and beginning to question if we know what we are doing. First time with anything like this. Vet wants to put her on Science Diet ( I am not a fan of the food, but what we are doing is not working)

She is fine otherwise- playful, energetic, picks on Dexter; Normal boxer. Only thing that is truly different between her and any other Boxer we have had, she goes to daycare 5 days a week. ( they both do ). She is by far the most spoiled pup we have had. Other than that nothing different. No treats, no table scraps, just her food sans rice and beef.

Ideas? Help?

I am so sorry to hear about Katie!
You might try Oatmeal and chicken, instead of the beef and rice. It might be a bit easier to digest. Have the stools ever been normal on the beef and rice? How long do you wait before introducing back the kibble?

She gets more solid on the rice and beef, the diarrhea stops and the vomiting. Stools are still soft. We wait a day before beginning to switch off the last time. Mixing 1/4 cup of kibble with rice/beef.

We will try oatmeal and chicken and see how she reacts. Should we wait longer before trying to switch to normal food. Give her system more time to recover?

Thank you very much for the reply it is nice to bounce some ideas off of someone else.

I would try the chicken and oatmeal for at least a couple of days before gradually adding back in the kibble.

What kind of tests has your vet done? Did he test for Parvo?

I doubt it is Parvo, but they will test this morning. She is active, wants to eat, not foul smelling feces-

They both are headed to the vet this morning. Dex started with diarrhea this morning. I will let you know what we find out. We feed oatmeal and sweet potato this morning. No vomiting, but the wife was headed to the vet at 8am.

Thanks again for the help

I doubt that is Parvo either, but it should be tested for IMO. My guess it that it's some sort of bacterial infection. Maybe a virus of some sort. Try adding some natural yogurt to her diet, to get some good bacteria back into her gut. I hope she recovers soon. :)
