I have noticed that Natty has like bumps on her back, hmm it's not bumps actually, you can't feel bumps nor can you see any redness or anything when you look under the hair, hmm it looks like knots in the hair or something like that, at first i thought i can just brush it off, i thought Emma might have scratched her in play or something like that, but it's been like 10 days-2 weeks and it's still not gone (she's had a bath since then). now in the sun i think she might have lost some hair in those areas as well. I'm taking her to the vet for nail clipping and anal glad sec. in the next few days so will have him to take a look. Can anyone tell me what it could be?

Our girl had a similar problem earlier this year. The vet indicated that she had most likey been bitten by some "gnat-like" water bugs since there was a small amount of dried blood around each raised area. We were instructed to give her a bath with medicated shampoo 2x/wk for two weeks. They disappeared after that, thankfully.

I'd never seen these buggers before, let alone heard of them but they get into your house and you have to "bomb" it(the day we were to the vet he had just done his house for these things)to get rid of them. Apparently, these "gnats" come out of water faucets and drains, which bothered me tremendously since I keep a very clean house. :(

Anyhow, good to go see the vet about it b/c it could be a number of things. Best of luck. Madison sends hugs and kisses to Natty and hopes she's better soon.

brrrrrgrrrroghhhhhhhhh

i get itchy just from reading about those things blaghhhhh.....

hmm her skin looks really perfect when you look under the hair (at least to me it does) so i really don't know what it is, i'll get the vet see it though. and yes i know the hysteria of thinking of what you have at home, we're in a new home and i'm trying to keep cockroaches away from it (not an easy task in india). one morning i wake up and see natty sitting in the kitchen with ALL the food she could find all over the floor (bread crumbs, rice, sugar, flour, a WHOLE pack of biscuits, a whole pack of a salty snack etc etc). that didn't bother me SO much but when i saw a cockroach happily crawling near her enjoying all the food she was eating i just went out of my mind. brrrr. and the drains here are "traditionally" open heh, as in from your kitchen sink you will have a pipe going down, there will be a drain cover in which the pipe will go through but the drain cover has holes in it... so your explanation DOES sound logical to me although she doesn't have that blood around like you're describing. oh my, how much blabbering :). thanks anyway, i'll let you know what it was.

I am having the same problem with Sampson. It has happened 2 times before, but went away very quickly - not this time.

We have been to the vet & are awaiting a test result for ringworm, which I don't think it is at all, but I'm no doctor (although I play one on TV :)

He has little bitty bumps of raised fur, but when I look they are very small, not red - he is not itchy & seems not to be bothered at all by them. They are on his back towards the hiney - but are creeping up towards his shoulders. The hair is progressively coming out & in the older spots starting to come back. I can't see any critters, and believe me I am looking.

He has been on antibiotics (which are upsetting his tummy)and they seem to have helped the previous spots - but some thing is causing the spread.

If you find out anything, I would love to hear about it. Meanwhile, we are waiting for the results of the test & the word from the doc on what to do next.

My pretty boy is all skitched up - we call him "skitchy butt". :(

Good luck with yours!

Sampsonsmom, what you are describing sounds exactly like what Natty has, i still didn't take her to the vet but will do it in the next couple of days and let you know what he said.

SHelby gets that too every now and then.......I think we have narrowed it down to an allergy to a certain type of dog food. We would "top" her food with some "hamburger looking dog food" and a few days after that she would break out in these bumps all over. The vet said they were Hives, and alot of dogs get them. As soon as we stopped feeding her that type of food we ahvent seen them since. Do you give your dog and extra food or treats?

Minx gets those too, she is allergic to certain things in food and outside (pollen etc). I had an allergy panel done on her and have since modified her diet, but there is not much I can do about the others. She is having allergy injections done now, but so far I have seen no improvement :( . The don't seem to itch her and they are not really noticebley bad, except to me, but of course I am Mommy and we see all these things!

Scout also gets hives -- he's allergic to lots of food as well as things in the air. It appears as if the bumps are under his hair, and they aren't always visible at first glance. Since we changed his food, he's not had any "outbreaks!"

It's a little hard for me to believe that Natty would have food allergy as she eats home cooked food only, and so I know exactly what goes in her food, which is mainly rice and beef, curd, some bread, veggies fruits etc. Oh but she does get some dry ready made treats, hmm maybe i will stop those then and see if there's any improvement. Good idea actually :) thanks.

Some dogs are allergic to beef, you might want to switch her to chicken or lamb. Check and see if the treats have soy, corn or wheat in them. These are also high allergens. This may help.
