"Freckling" on mask?

I've been looking through some of the photo gallery pictures, and I've noticed that some boxers with a lot of white on their mask seem to have dots of black over the front, a sort of freckling. All I know from the standard is that the black mask is essential, but would that be considered a fault or not?

In the very front of the mush, you're probably seeing skin instead of hair. The essential black mask is a hair pigmentation; many Boxers have speckled skin/lips in front.

If that's not helping, maybe a link to a picture that illustrates what you're talking about?

No, your explanation makes sense. I'm not very familiar with the standard's intracicies, so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. It matches what I've seen. Is all boxer skin that dark underneath, or is that just on the mush?

Generally skin is pink, with usually at least some spots. Brindle dogs have striped skin, though, so reverse brindles probably have mostly dark skin. :)
